On an aside, due to Chi Town Diner's interest in a potential diversion to Bloomington IN for a Stromboli, we may force The Screaming Chicken to have a later than planned dinner although I still have no idea what time our dinner will be since we have about 10 or 20 stops planned for that day, on the way down from Indy to Starlight, I"m hoping it's later rather than earlier.. Right now the diversion is a only in the early stages of discussion and Chi Town Diner may have to make a special trip on his own or we can drop him off in Bloomington and he can walk to Starlight from there, it really isn't that far of a walk anyway.

No problem; we should be able to make adjustments on the fly.  Right now my plan is to leave the house around 6am CDT and I'm guesstimating it's a 6 to 7 hour drive from Stoughton to Starlight, but since I lose an hour due to the time zone change I'm sure it'll be 2pm EDT or later by the time I'm in the area.  And if dinner will be later than that I do have a few stops I could make along the way...

Karl, could you locate Carrollton, KY on the map and possibly give me a rough estimate of the time it'll take to reach it from Huber's?  My route would be Old 3 out of Charlestown to IN-3 and IN-62 into Madison, and US-421 to US-42 into Carrollton.  Thanks!

Are you thinking dinner around 2pm EDT?  Do you have milking to do at 4?

Well, I think it will be up to ChiBears15 since we volunteered him to do all the driving that Tuesday
If CTD forgoes Bloomington I would like to compromise and play it safe and say "6ish" ?

I will drive you to Huber's, but you will have to get us back.  The ScreamingChicken challenged me to a drinking contest there, and I have to uphold Chicago's reputation as a great drinking town.  Sorry.

Well, since you've bought into all the hype about New Glarus beers I'm sure by "hard stuff" you mean Templeton Rye.

Dinner time's going to be an important factor for me, though.  It's well over an hour (by Google) from Joe Huber's to General Butler State Park, and I'd like to avoid driving when the sun's almost down and later.  Figure out what time works best for you guys and if it's OK with me I'll be there; otherwise, maybe I'll go to The Chicken House after all and let Uncle Groucho buy me that beer.

According to google, sunset in Starlight IN on august 23 is at 8:26PM, so I think we'll be fairly safe with a 6PM dinner time.

I checked google for sunset in  Carrolton KY for August 23 . It's 8:23pm. So you're definitely good to go. With a 6pm dinner, I suspect you'll arrive at the state park just around Sunset.

Incidentally, I'm not a huge fan of driving at night. We were in the North Shore (north of Boston) on Sunday. We spent the entire day there leaving RI at 9:30AM, Our last stop was Gloucester MA and we didn't anticipate running into a huge crowd from all over New England for a parade, concert and fireworks display when we arrived just before 6pm.
We figured it's Gloucester, it's probably a tiny parade, so we checked part of of it out and then walked over for dinner. 2 hours later the parade was just starting to wind down and a good part of the crowd left (even though there was still a concert and fireworks display) so we thought that was odd. We got stuck in Traffic for an hour trying to get out of Gloucester, so it was dark by the time we actually got out of town at almost 9pm and dark. That said even though it was over a 90 minute driver home, we enjoyed a few fantastic fireworks displays for a portion of the trip.

WJ,

I am surprised you don't like driving at night.  Don't you remember your stunt driving on the way back to Memphis from Greenwood?

That's different though. Driving down south is an adventure anytime day or night. Driving in the northeast at night is just "lame"

Yep, I'm still most likely in...but earlier dining times greatly increase the odds of my attendance!

I would still  be willing to do lunch, perhaps around 1 ish or so since we have a couple of morning stops in Indy if that would work for everyone else then we can make our stops at Zaharako's and the Nashville General store on the way back up to Indy and still do Gray Brothers for dinner. Even with say a 5:45 to 6pm dinner time that would still get you into Carrolton well before  sunset.

We will be there- lunch or dinner, and we'll sort everything out within the next week or two. We may have to get an early start and get to John's Stew when they open at 7AM to try and swing an early (before 6pm)  dinner stop at Joe Hubers

I am ready to go! No kidding , this place takes as much time as they see fit that you get your food on you table in an undetermined amount of time. It aint ready till its ready. What appetizers tickle your fancy??
They usually give you a basket with crackers and bread , applebutter and butter.

"Appetizer chicken" wasn't a typo.  I'm having chicken prior to having chicken for dinner.

Under different circumstances I'd be all in for a stop at New Albanian (and I'll bet it's caught WJ's eye as well) but after dinner I'll still have some distance to travel before the end of the day, so I'm going to have to regretfully decline.  However, if you were to happen to bring along a random growler I could see fit to reimburse you...

CTD's spreadsheet officially finalized this morning with CB15's approval

Our next and final stop of the evening after Joe Huber's will involve gallivanting back to Indy for Ice Cream at
Sundae's Homemade Ice Cream

Since we have an earlier than expected meet up time at Joe Huber's, unfortunately we had to drop Gray Brother's off the itinerary, I know buffetbuster would be disappointed, however CB15 plans to be back in the area in February and Sandra and I will be stopping there too on our cross country trip to New Mexico in 2018
