Since we have an earlier than expected meet up time at Joe Huber's, unfortunately we had to drop Gray Brother's off the itinerary, I know buffetbuster would be disappointed, however CB15 plans to be back in the area in February and Sandra and I will be stopping there too on our cross country trip to New Mexico in 2018.

Since my return trip home will be over 2 days this year it looks like a stop at Gray Brothers might be possible for me on Sunday the 28th, although that time slot's in direct competition with Johnson's BBQ Shack in nearby Bargersville.

I may end up at Gray Brothers after all. After the Indy's game before heading to Kentucky ,I'm going to check and see if they have chicken and noodles on the menu, if so, I'll be heading there instead of my original plans with either the Chicken Inn or Clayton's Café.

Would this be a return visit to The Chicken Inn for you?  I was working on my return trip last night and depending on the timing of things it's also a possibility for me as I'll be picking up IN-44 in Shelbyville, although I usually get an early Sunday start (8-8:30am) and might be passing through before its 11am opening.

No I've never been hence my other thread about choosing either the Chicken Inn or Clayton's Café. Both are in the 2007 book "Café Indiana" which actually has a forward from Michael and Jane Stern.
As far as proximity to Louisville and avoiding missing the first couple of innings of the Louisville Bats game, both Gray's or the Chicken Inn involve less travel time than Clayton's Cafe

It's a huge parking lot , but the food is cheaper if you buy it outside.

Still trying to wrassle-up Carolina Bob but I think he's on a covert operation and is deep under cover....suspected pie thieves!  Maybe Louis has had contact?

BTW, I have the chicken-man doing squats to ready himself in case of a chair shortage!

A fun evening as the above mentioned group arrived at Joe Huber's either early or on-time....well, with one glaring exception!

Our esteemed host choose several conflicting excuses but did manage to grace us with his presence for 7 minutes and 13 seconds.

As far as the rest of the group...it was wonderful to once again have dinner with Janet Bowen, the late Mayor Al's wife, and we shared several hours of stories!  Also nice to put a face to a name with the 1st time meeting of Carl, Uncle Groucho...thanks for making the long drive in!  Carl - did you have trouble with traffic?  And last but not least, good to catch up with Roadfood's Duncan Hines resident expert, Louis!  Always a pleasure Louis

Food was plentiful and at one point, I had 7 plates in front of me causing a lot of uncertainty and inner anguish.  Three of us (Carl, Louis and I) choose the family dinner with unlimited fried chicken and country ham along with biscuits, green beans, mashed potatoes with gravy, summer salad composed of fresh tomatoes, cucumbers, onions and a refreshing vinaigrette and the velvety smooth hit of the night, chicken and dumplings!  Janet had the fried chicken and fried chicken livers and wanderingjew had the fried chicken livers.

Joe Huber's Starlight Inn continues to evolve with the addition of a diet plate.  An extra bland chicken breast is finely diced and served along side a nice, big plate of lettuce.  ChiBears15, more commonly referred to as ChiBeers15 and after his wonderful review of the new Joe Huber Diet Salad, ChiSalad15 really enjoyed his grazing!

Dessert was cherry cobbler...for one!  Also  a home run!  Maybe not quite as good as the boiled chicken breast salad, but still a nice ending to the meal!

Not sure when this same group will get together again, or for the first time for Screaming Chicken aka Brad, but for several hours last night, it was a fun time!

Please direct all salad questions to ChiSalad15.  Anyone in need of an excuse for work on a Monday, or any day of the week, contact the Screaming Chicken!

One final note...for the safety of small children and animals, wanderingjew is now by himself in Kentucky! Excercise Caution and please, Beware!

Lisa,

By the time we got to Huber's, I was beyond full.  I ordered a grilled chicken salad because I don't like to waste food which is what would have happened if I ordered big like the chitowndiner.

CTD forgot to mention my incredible eating performance at St. Elmo Steakhouse the previous night...
