Massachusetts (mostly around Boston) with a *sigh*...vegetarian

I'll be visiting a friend all next week- she lives in Framingham, MA, but we plan to make some day trips around the state.  Maybe to central MA, definitely into Boston proper and various points on the Cape.  My friend is a vegetarian; she eats dairy and eggs, but no seafood, poultry, or meat.

My friend has held onto a gift card she was given to a Chilean small plate restaurant in Newton called Comedor, so we plan on going there.  They have a decent selection of vegetarian dishes, so we'll probably get all of those, and I'll get a couple non-vegetarian dishes for myself...maybe she has an omnivorous friend who can come with to share with me.

So, recommendations for places with vegetarian options?

abe_froeman, I have a daughter who doesn't eat meat or fish.  We never even consider her dietary preferences when we go out, because she is always able to order, quite well,  according to her diet.  Being that you are new in town......and want to eat appropriately, I think your diet is the one that should be accommodated....jus sayin......

I am not the world's biggest fan of Triple D, but one episode that got me to wishing I lived in Boston featured an italian joint called Rinos

plenty of vegetarian options there

I am reading about very long waits.  I'd recommend getting there before they open

IMHO, individuals' (self-imposed) "dietary restrictions" are like tampons and colostomy bags - something to be maintained by the individual.  Take her places that you know that you will enjoy and let her "figure it out".  Hell, French fries and salads are served everywhere.

On the other hand, if you are planning activities such as 'kielbasa concealment', by all means pretend that you really care

I don't understand the issue...doesn't everybody in Boston just eat baked beans and brown bread?

When I was there in 2017, the line at Mike's was out the door, and I was told it's a tourist trap.  We went to Bova's instead and it was awesome.  When my friend came here to visit me last summer, she brought a plastic container packed to the gills with pastries she bought that morning...even in their smooshed state, they were delicious.

"Kielbasa concealment"- LOL, she's not *that kind* of friend

If I was staying with an omnivore, I'd wouldn't give it a second thought, but she's generous enough to let me stay at her house all week, so I don't want to do all BBQ and burgers (not that Boston is known for their BBQ, unless someone has some unknown treasure!) while I'm there.  When I stayed with her last time, I drove there, and brought some of those cheddar crisps with bacon bits that they sell at Costco because I wasn't sure what food was available in her house.  But her boyfriend is an omnivore, so it ended up not being bad.

Funny you should mention Q!  I spent many a night at this bar.  The beef ribs and brisket were very good.

I spent about 8 years working in the Boston Burb's, Marlborough was one of my favorite towns.  Great place for home style Brazilian food.  Labaredas Brazilian BBQ & Tropical Cafe are my favorites.

One of the best breakfast's in MA, Jake's Restaurant & Coffee Shop, the homemade hash is world class(Roosey recommendation.  Tara lived in Marlborough in another life ).

If you are traveling East on 90, Carl's oxford Diner is pure Roadfood! Make sure you sit at the counter and enjoy the show.  If you are lucky, the bus will be there.

Enjoy!

This is a place we can't wait to try the next time we head up to boston.
Yes it's hipsterish but that's a fact of life nowadays.
Noted for their popovers there are other items on the menu too.
And there are some local baked good - including Boston Brown Bread - and yes they do have Boston Baked beans on the menu (which almost always have salt pork ) so  not vegetarian friendly

Often the company is more important than the food. I don't mind when a family member suggests a place that would be my 10th choice, as long as we go some place.

My favorite place in Boston is Daily Catch.  They'll make anything you want!  https://www.yelp.com/biz_...JK2MgTBN6KIX89v_ZT_LOw
