Along with my beloved micro brews, I also enjoy a good mead every now and then. There are a few different ones floating around in the PacNW, right now I have a bottle of Honeywood from Oregon in the fridge for this weekend.

Anyone else enjoy this ancient drink ? I have found mead to be somewhat hard to find, there is usually the odd token bottle tucked away in the unclassified wine section.

Anyone know a great mead to recommend ?

I work with a guy that makes his own mead. I'm not a fan but I've had worse stuff.

Long ago, I judged a homebrew competition in Bisbee, Arizona. The best of show was a rose petal mead. It was the single best alcoholic beverage I've ever judged.

I drank some Mead once. I was water skiing on this lake above Hoover Dam and I fell head first....tasted pretty much like water.

There's a place in Warren, MI called Kuhnhenn Brewing Company ( While they're known primarily for their beers, they make some tasty mead. It's a little sweet for my liking, but it packs a pretty nice punch.

I just read a recent article on a local company being the first licensed meadery (State of Michigan).
They'll be making wine with added fruits:
