Re: Miami to Key West lunch recommendation
DO NOT miss the Turtle Chowder at the Green Turtle Inn in Islamorada. Get a bowl, not a cup. They are open Sundays.
My favorite place in the Keys is La Nina in Marathon. Authentic Cuban. It's a dump, but the food is worth it and cheap. I usually get the Ropa Vieja with plantains and yellow rice. I don't think it's even on the menu.
Another of my favorites is Bucktooth Rooster on Big Pine Key. Extensive menu and huge portions.
The Square Grouper on Cudjoe Key is pretty good, only been there once.
Keys Fishery is good and I've eaten at 7 Mile Grill several times in Marathon, excellent fish tacos.
Oh God, if you can find a place that's got a Hogfish sandwich, get one!! I think I had one at Lazy Days in Marathon.
I've not been to Baby's, but it's on the the way to Key West, just past Sugarloaf on the left.
I didn't check to see if any of these places are open Sunday. Also beware there are restaurants that are cash only and/or don't have free refills or are open for lunch, but not dinner, and vice-versa.
Best Plan -- Drop in at GTI and get a bowl, then travel down to Marathon and get a hogfish sandwich.
