"If you're looking for a little upscale, a little trendy, Mr. Maki and I really liked Nighthawks Diner while we were there.  Modern twists on classic diner foods."

When did you last go?  I ask because ownership changed in late 2017.  Reviews are still mostly positive, because Kim Bartmann cuts quite a swath in the Twin Cities (including Bryant-Lake Bowl), but it is a different crew than when it first opened. I haven't been there.

From City Pages (November 7, 2017):
There's no two ways about it: Chef Landon Schoenefeld's departure from Nighthawks/Birdie sucked the soul right out of the south Minneapolis diner.

Though the business remained open after Schoenefeld left in November of 2016, much of its appeal -- its postmodernist edge and its cheffed-up American classics -- faded. Quality waned. Regulars went elsewhere.
So who better to save the Kingfield corner eatery than the Minneapolis restaurant mogul herself? Starting this week, Kim Bartmann and her management team will swoop in with some changes, powered by a woman who lives to run restaurants.
“With Landon’s blessing, we’ve taken on the management of Nighthawks," Bartmann says in a statement. "Our intention is, as always to bring quality food to the neighborhood. We’ll be getting pop-ups and events back into the Birdie space, and continuing with a kick-ass brunch.”
Other changes include a menu refresh and lunch service Monday through Friday starting at 11 a.m.. The new management team promises the restaurant will have the same look and feel as before.
Bartmann, as usual, is currently juggling a number of other projects: In addition to the restaurants she's already established (Barbette, Tiny Diner, Pat's Tap, Bryant-Lake Bowl, the list goes on), Bartmann is readying a revamp of the beloved Cafe Maude space in south Minneapolis, as well as a champagne bar, Trapeze, on West Lake Street.

Will_work_4_bbq,

Is there a chance we might see you in Minnesota? Glad you were able to make it to Nashville!

Wanted to pass along that my buddy Joe may be able to join us this time. He still fondly recalls the Pittsburgh trip.

Mr. Schlotz,

Have you got any breweries that you intend to visit on your trip? There are a couple about 100 miles outside of the Twin Cities that may be worth visiting.

Jim,

Surly Brewing is the one that is on my radar. Any others I should be thinking about? Will you and the Diva be attending?

If I drive up (less likely), I'd like to hit up Toppling Goliath in Decorah, Iowa.

Boyd,

I think August Schell and Flagstaff Falstaff breweries are both in New Ulm, Minnesota, but Flagstaff Falstaff may now be a part of Schell.

Leinenkugels is in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin which would offer attendees a stop at a real Wisconsin supper club if the drive is made.

Bobbi and I will be on the crawl and she will probably allow me to go to a brewery tour.

Remember, any and all supper club selections must have Somali/Hmong fusion menus for Buddy...

What's this Flagstaff you're referring to?  The Google says it's in Arizona and I thought for a minute you might mean Falstaff, but AFAIK no one's resurrected that label.

Time to move this process along and figure out when the heck are we gonna do this thing?  The range of dates looks like this:
4/11-14
4/25-28
5/2-5
5/16-19
5/23-26

These dates take into account, and eliminate, all Holiday weekends (Easter, Passover, Mother’s Day).  I’ve also checked with the Minneapolis and St. Paul tourism boards and made sure there are no other major events taking place that will prohibit movement while we’re in town.

There are a few other gatherings that might make booking a hotel mildly challenging, but if we start early it shouldn’t be a big problem.  For instance, there are two different dental conventions going on; one during the 4/25-28 weekend, and another 5/16-19.  There’s also a big volleyball tournament going on 4/25-28.  This is all worth minor consideration, but shouldn’t overly influence our choices.  The advantage of the Twin Cities is in the name: they are two cities in one, surrounded by a vast suburban metroplex.  If the hotels are filled up on one side of the Mississippi River, there’ll be plenty more on the other side.

We’ve had some Doodle Poll issues, so let’s try a different approach in settling on a date.  My idea is to rank all the dates in order of preference, assigning each date a number; one being the highest priority and five the lowest.  For instance (this is my actual vote):

1. 4/25-28
2. 5/16-19
3. 4/11-14
4. 5/2-5
5. 5/23-26

Once we have all the votes, we’ll tally up the rankings for each date and average them.  The date with the lowest number is our winner.  Is two weeks enough time to keep the polls open?  If there are no objections, we’ll close the voting on Friday, September 7th at midnight.  We’ll have our date the next day.

Here’s a list of all the folks who participated in the vote to decide the Crawl city:
Bonk, Mrs. Bonk, Wawa Mama, nagle, Davidsanders, Michael Hoffman, lleechef, BuddyRoadhouse, JRPfeff, Pie Diva, CNW, Big_g, icecreamchick, Ralph Melton, ChiBears15, chickenplucker, Linda, joerogo, wanderingjew, Sandra, will_work_4_bbq, Mrs. Roadhouse, abe_froeman, buffetbuster, Mariton, ChiTownDiner, Mr. Maki, schlotz, Cousin Johnny, Sundancer7, Roz

Assuming you’re still planning to make the trip to Minneapolis/St. Paul, please submit your date preferences ASAP.  If you’ve firmly decided not to attend, please abstain from voting so as not to skew the numbers.

Thanks folks!

Buddy

Jen and I are not as committed to attending this crawl as we were for the last few. As such we don’t want to influence the vote one way or another and not attend. Basically, all the dates are acceptable to us and we will decide/plan around whatever the group decides.

Most likely we'll pick the May dates . I'll check with Sandra when I see her in a couple of hours and then I'll respond with the dates when I get home Sunday evening.

Contingent members may be aware that our annual Smoke/Pie Day Party will be held during Memorial Day weekend. We will not be changing our plans to accommodate attendees of the crawl if that weekend is chosen. Sorry in advance for my dickishness, but this is the one day each year the world does revolve us.

Understood.  And I for one would be terribly disappointed if I was unable to attend both events.  The best way to make that happen is to vote, listing the Memorial Day weekend as your lowest priority.

Neither Bobbi or I will be voting. She has been deemed above to be ineligible and I will abstain in marital solidarity.

Issue resolved.  It was a simple oversight that somehow occurred during a cut and paste action from an earlier post.  Apologies.
