Tell ya what, they're open til midnight on Thursday; 1am on Friday and Saturday.  If you want to go after the regular itinerary stops, I'll be there to keep you company and down a cocktail.  Let's see if the boys in Beefcake 1 match that offer.

Buddy

EDIT:
Actually Joe you deserve a better answer.  Matt's needs to stay where it is in the rundown, at 11am, cuz that's when they open.  Same strategy we used in KC when we visited Arthur Bryant's: Get in before the crowds to insure full seating and a short wait time.  Matt's isn't a big place and they get pretty raucous during prime meal times.

That said, my offer above still stands.

The Crawl's resident tech expert, Ralph Melton, has started our GroupMe account, allowing all of us to communicate en masse, in real time, throughout the trip.  Looks like a bunch of you are already signed up.  Anyone interested should send Ralph a PM and he'll help set you up.

For those of you going to Lunds/Byerlys: my husband just bought a wedge of Minnesota-made Alemar Good Thunder cheese from the service deli/cheese shop at our local Lunds.  The exterior rind is washed in Surly Brewery Brown Ale. Nice cheese.

All the organizing and shuffling of stops was done on a spreadsheet.  Much easier than doing it in Word.  That said, my version looks a lot different from the the one used by CTD.

Just a couple of other points:

1. Be sure to bring some cash.  Some of the places we'll be visiting don't take plastic.

2. Several places have waived their large group/private room fees, which included gratuities.  I know I don't need to tell you folks to tip generously, but it's still good to keep in mind.  We invade these smaller venues with our group of 20, then eat for just 10.  It's just as much work for the waitress for half the tab.  No need to go crazy with the tip, but a couple extra percentage points will go a long way to making a good impression.

If anyone thinks of any other considerations for making this a smoother trip, feel free to add to the list.

Buddy

Buddy,

The few times I've been to MSP I haven't had to deal with a lot of parking.

With a lot of CBD stops in both cities, should we carry a bunch of quarters or is downtown parking bad enough that we need to consider condensing vehicles?

We didn't do Chicago and Pittsburgh, KC and Nashville didn't have as much focus in downtown, and MSP is bigger than the last three, so I'm curious if you have any parking advice.

Most of the places on our itinerary have some kind of off street parking.  Only a few rely exclusively on street parking.  Even then, the way I've structured the timing, so we're hitting during "off" hours, should help alleviate parking issues.  Also, none of the places we're going are in the "downtown" areas, comparable to Chicago's Loop or Manhattan.  We'll be in areas more like the neighborhoods of those cities, making it a bit more manageable.

Just in case, I'll refer you to rumaki's earlier post:
rumaki

Be VERY careful about parking on the street in Minneapolis. They have just increased the rates, increased the number of spots with 2-hour limits, and extended the active hours for parking enforcement. https://bringmethenews.com/minnesota-news/minneapolis-changes-rates-enforcement-hours-time-limits-to-more-than-2600-downtown-parking-meters

Everything you want to know about parking on the street is here:  https://www.mplsparking.com/on-street

Looks like you won't need quarters, just a credit or debit card for the pay stations.

Just like any big city, a little common sense will help you avoid problems.  Carefully check the street for parking instructions before walking away from your car.  And if you're ever in doubt, ask one of the local merchants.  They don't want to see their customers getting tickets; bad for business, so they usually know the neighborhood parking rules, and can frequently offer tips for getting the best result for the least amount of money.

Hope that helps.

A couple of places that may be tricky for parking are Hell's Kitchen (it IS downtown, and you'll be there during rush hours on a weekday, as I recall) and Al's (not downtown, but on the U of Minnesota campus, which is an urban campus, and street parking is almost always challenging). If you haven't been to Kramarczuks in a while, the area has become trendy and hipster. Along with shops, there are pubs and restaurants that are open late. There is a Lunds and Haskells liquor store nearby, each with its own parking garage or lot, but they are very strict about limiting use to their own patrons. And there is road construction everywhere (the season has officially commenced), so be prepared for diversions and delays.

Wednesday Dinner s confirmed.  I did not get any adds or drops so we have 12 at 7:30pm.  Black Forest Inn.

They were so accommodating so in case we have arrival delays or one of the locals would like to join us, they are totally flexible!

A couple of places that may be tricky for parking are Hell's Kitchen (it IS downtown, and you'll be there during rush hours on a weekday, as I recall)...

Looking at Google Street View, there's a paid parking lot adjacent to Hell's Kitchen and another lot across the street.  Hell's Kitchen does not validate parking, but indicates rates are pretty reasonable (especially if you're used to Chicago parking rates).  Street parking, when available is metered, and your cheapest option.

rumaki
...and Al's (not downtown, but on the U of Minnesota campus, which is an urban campus, and street parking is almost always challenging).

Likewise with Al's, street parking is you're least expensive option, but might be tough to find.  There is a paid lot around the corner at roughly 1312 5th Street.

rumaki
If you haven't been to Kramarczuks in a while, the area has become trendy and hipster. Along with shops, there are pubs and restaurants that are open late. There is a Lunds and Haskells liquor store nearby, each with its own parking garage or lot, but they are very strict about limiting use to their own patrons.

Kramarczuk's has their own off street parking lot attached to the building.  It looks like it's big enough for about 16 cars.  There's also a paid parking lot around the corner at 21 NE 2nd Street.  There's a sign in the Google Street View image (Aug., 2017) indicating it costs $5.

I hope no one takes this as a condescending remark, but when you live in Chicago, and you're used to dropping $20 or more for an hour of downtown parking, five bucks is equivalent to free.  Especially if it alleviates the headache of driving around, looking for a space on the street.  I'll be surprised if anyone needs to spend more than $20 on parking over the course of the whole weekend.

rumaki
And there is road construction everywhere (the season has officially commenced), so be prepared for diversions and delays.

Welcome to the big city gang!  We've all encountered it before; and we'll get through it on this trip.

We cool?
