care to comment on the actual tweet itself and/or the qualities of the person who wrote it?

I can point you to earlier tweets by this same individual in which there was a threat to kill another Bengals player with a gun upon merely sighting said player in the vicinity, if you'd like

TJ,

Tweets? Please! The point is your name-calling is childish. Have a gripe against the Steelers? Fine. You're a fan -- which is short for fanatic, of course -- and there's nothing wrong with that. I'm a Giants fan. But I direct my dislike of the Eagles, Redskins and Cowboys in a junior high school manner, not as a second grader.

You mean my problem with the favoritism that is clearly shown to the Rapistburgers by the NFL, turning what would normally be a sports competition into a sham with a preordained outcome, ala the Globetrotters versus the Generals, with the Bengals ever cast in the Generals role?

Really getting old...but, If the refs favored Pittsburgh and The Patriots over the Bengals, shouldn't the Bengals be at least 13-3 every year? Except if they play the Bears...

Re: NFL Chatter: 2017 Draft through 2018's Super Bowl LII (& Aftermath) 2017/12/13 14:56:33 (permalink)
Over on the Baseball thread I lamented (that) "Watching the goings-on at MLB's Meetings leaves me, a life-long Pirate fan, feeling like a Dickens character - out in the cold watching through a frosted window as the wealthy feast and make merry".

I went on to praise the NFL as an industry for the one thing: the NFL does far better than MLB --institutionalizing and maintaining competitive balance.

The exchange above leads me to a corollary of that observation:  having "competitive balance" lets NFL fans dream of Super Bowls and even "dynasties" if only their city's team is wise, lucky, - or both - in assembling a competent front office and coaching staff and in drafting.  This hope - along with the violent nature of the sport - foments a hyperbolic sense of tribalism among NFL fans than can lead to emotional exchanges.

Remember, it's only a game.

Truth be known, neither Burfict or Roethlisberger would be considered for the guest list fon a family wedding.

It is "only a game" when it is actually "a game", ie neither team gains advantage from officiating

Good god TJ...again, why aren't they 10-3? Because they aren't that good. Simple The refs didn't cause them to lose those other games.

Would it help if I nominated Vontaze Burfict for the Nobel Peace Prize and urged Pope Francis to Beatify him in anticipation of his inevitable sainthood?

EDIT: (in response to the "nope" below) -
O.K., what if I proposed that the Steelers be renamed The Pittsburgh Spawn of Satan?

What I saw in the Bengals Sunday is if they've won 5 games this season they must have had some help from the league.

Let's be nice now, as I tried to be in post #201 above.

As Christmas is coming we need to go beyond sympathy and actually have empathy for those unfortunate NFL fans whose teams are, at once, both repulsive and risibly incompetent.

Were I to be a BUNGLES fan () I would most likely be every bit as bitter and paranoid as they appear to be.

But as a STEELER fan () I have the self-possession to realize that the call that went against us on that TD to Jesse James was, given the rules, actually a proper call.  Besides, it was our otherwise heroic Big Ben that pulled a Russell Wilson to actually lose the game.  But, we'll be playing them again.

However, if that had happened to the Bungles ... their fans would need to be bound & muzzled like Hannibal Lecter, then placed in a padded room with no sharp objects!

BTW, how about those VIKINGS
Want to make a 'play date' for Super Bowl LII

But, we'll be playing them again.

I'm guessing there won't be a rematch.  Assuming both Patriots and Steelers win out, it will most likely be a scary Jags team, with a historically great defense coming to Heinz Field.  I don't need to bring up what happened last time they were here.

And it will most likely be either the Ravens or the suddenly awoken Chiefs headed to Foxboro.  The Ravens have a history of winning there and the Chiefs have already done it this year.  The AFC looks much more competitive than it did a few weeks ago.

Nope, incorrect conclusion - rather, they've regressed considerably (to put it mildly) since dominating the Steelers in the first half of the 12/4 game

The team has basically quit for the year following that game - destroyed by the Bears, destroyed by the Vikings.  I fully expect they will be destroyed by the Lions and the Ravens as well.

Well, hopefully you're not being gifted any hypocrisy for Christmas this year, as you already have plenty; just as the Rapistburgers decry perceived attempts to hurt them (Brown, Boswell et al) while openly and enthusiastically reveling in the hurting others (Brown, Juju, V Williams et al)

and to your comment implying Steelers fan are calm/cerebral types - well, uhm, no: http://ftw.usatoday.com/2...turned-td-fan-reaction

You are correct, Sir.
We Steelers fans are a bunch of drooling morons.

EDIT:  Further, the official name of The Queen City's NFL franchise is, indeed, the Cincinnati BENGALS, not the "Bungles".  However, even Bengals fans must acknowledge that their team has demonstrated a pronounced propensity to snatch defeat from the laws of victory.  Noting this propensity the late, great Myron Cope started calling them "The Bungles" in order to more accurately describe their play - as he does 30 seconds into the clip below:.

And please realize that, for STEELER fans, "Bungles" is a term of endearment.
For, indeed, we surely do love them!
