NFL Chatter: 2017 Draft through 2018's Super Bowl LII (& Aftermath)

Well, as of today Tony Romo is no longer a Dallas Cowboy.

If you believe in QB Ratings, Romo is ahead of every HoF QB and only one tenth of a point behind Tom Brady.

So, if I were a Cowboy fan I'd be a little upset that 'Ol Jer just let him go without getting something in return.  But, I do admire Jones' loyalty to Tony as a person by just 'setting him free'.  Romo is a "good guy" and has been a model citizen; I wish him health and success in his future endeavors.

There seems to be some hedging on the Romo release.

Word has it that the Texans are shipping Oswieler to the Browns.

It all gets real in a few minutes.

Bengals will need about a dozen QBs on the roster this fall given the quality (rather: lack thereof) of their remaining OL players.

About 9-10 of those should be in the hospital by the year's end

OK. Osweiler has been traded to the Browns and the Cowboys are trading Romo instead of releasing him -- possibly to the Texans or Broncos.

Word is that the 'Ol Parole Officer will be signing Johnny Football to back up Prescott.
He is already interviewing more 'body men'.

BTW:  where will Kaepernick end up?
I'm thinking on the failing ESPN.

If ESPN hired The Kap, that would be the end!

This weekend, The AZ Diamondbacks are auditioning people to sing the National Anthem at their home games.
Since The Kap needs a job, maybe he could audition??!!" />" />

The other day, the Cowboys handed out the checks to the players for their 2017 season performance bonus. Each contract has clauses about getting a bonus for reaching certain goals/stats during the season. Their rookie QB got a check for over $330,000. Romo's was for a little over $64. I don't think anyone is going to trade for Romo, because they then also get his current contract and that's a big pill to swallow for a player that may or may not make it thru the season.

So...the Bears have decided to replace Jay Cutler with the relatively unproven Mike Glennon.  It sounds like he has the size and skills but lacks the NFL-level experience, so this upcoming season will probably have quite a few ups and downs.

ESPN just hired Rex Ryan. Chris Berman is out.
He'll probably take them down the tubes too!

There won't be any fans at Rams and Chargers games. All the fans in the Los Angeles area are old Raiders fans and they'll make the trip to Las Vegas for the games.

The easiest way for them to improve, not that I would want them to improve, would be to trade Mike Brown for Margaret Carolyn Unnewehr Schott. I know she's dead. It would still be an improvement.

The positive economic impact of the Raiders' move is already being felt in Sin City.  The owner of the Bunny Ranch just announced his plans to open a "Raiders-themed" brothel just outside the city.  $lots & $luts: just what Pete Rozelle envisioned.

The Raiders players had better put criminal defense and bankruptcy attorneys on retainer.

A few days ago, Mass Gov Charlie Baker showed up at an event and got boooed. He had to explain that HE was NOT the NFL commisioner. They may look a little alike, but it doesn't say a lot for Patriots fans.

Romo made the smart move to the broadcast booth...the only hits he'll take will be verbal.

And he's replacing Phil Simms on the #1 team with Jim Nantz, which is pretty surprising.  If this has happened before I can't remember when; all the former players I can think of started out on regional broadcast teams.

Nantz & Simms were together for years; I wonder if there are other factors in play.

Of course there was another factor in this decision. Simms never played for the Cowboys.

True, but Simms played in New York and often beat the Cowboys.  This never would've happened if William Paley was still in charge at CBS!!

Simms did not merely play in New York. Phil Simms played for the mighty New York Giants and was the MVP of Super Bowl XXI when the Giants beat some team from Colorado.

A Jock Talk Show I listen to says Jerry Jones is pulling the strings.
Think about it - Romo, Ackman, Michael Irvin, Deion Sanders - all broadcasters, all ex Cowboys

    Indeed.

He was a good, honest, straightforward, decent gentleman - very typical of his hometown.

He represented his father, his family, his profession, Pittsburgh, and - as Ambassador to Ireland - the United States so very well.
