NFL Chatter...2019/20 Season

It's the start of the NFL year. Let the free agent signings begin! (As a Jet fan, I don't believe anything until the contract is signed, but I'm very hopeful right now.)

For starters, it looks like Cleveland is getting a break.

After the kicking issues of last season the Bears parted ways with Cody Parkey and now have 2 kickers on the roster.  Ironically, one of them is named "Blewitt"...

Yeah, that has to be one of the least desirable names for a kicker.  I can tell you that he was outstanding while kicking at Pitt.

My Jets are actually doing pretty good with this free agency period.

The Bengals just paid top tackle money for a tackle ranked lower than 64th in the league

Said another way, each team starts 2 OTS, and there are 32 teams, so 64 starting tackles....

and this guy wasnt one of those, even lower than the worst, but was paid big money regardless

The Bengals used to be cheap and stupid with their money, now they are just merely stupid.  I think I prefer their former state

The AFC North looks like it's going to be a lot of fun to watch this year.

My friend and I already have tentative plans to go to see the Eagles play the Browns in Cleveland in 2020 (assuming the game doesn't fall at holiday time). That could be a great matchup.

This year's expected trip is to Buffalo to see them play the Bills. I'm praying it will be an early-season game.  Looking forward to trying a beef on weck too.

I am sad to see that Burfict chose to sign with the Raiders rather than retire

After 7 concussions and well below average production last year, I think the smart move would be to retire

It is too bad.  The league doesn't need players like Burfict flying around taking head shots at people and causing the very concussions that you are concerned about for him.  Guys like Burfict and James Harrison and Suh don't make the game any better.

    Saps:

this would then include players like Ryan Shazier, whose injury resulted from a play where he led (as he often did) with his head, to spear the player targeted

I agree.  People seem to forget that his injury was incurred while he was attempting to make an illegal hit.

After a gazillion mock-drafts, it's time for the real thing! Will the Giants take a QB?

i cant see the Giants not taking a qb by the end of day 2.....or alternately (but less likely) trading picks for a vet

I like the Jets pick...ask the Giants how Brady plays with pressure up the middle.

Yeah, that has to be one of the least desirable names for a kicker.  I can tell you that he was outstanding while kicking at Pitt.

But apparently not outstanding enough for the Bears to keep him, as they let him go this week.

So he got his chance, but he...well, you know.

At this point I won't be surprised if Mirro Roder gets a shot.
