It's grim but real. I think the only one they didn't name was Ben's Best in Rego Park- my only experience there nearly 10 years ago was downright awful.

Dale, looks like Ben's Best will get some movie love in the De Niro film, 'The Comedian'.

I'm sorry that you had a bad experience at Ben's Best in Rego Park (not part of the Ben's Deli chain). It's been a few years, but I always went there for my pastrami-on-rye-fix (juicy please) when I was in the neighborhood. Admittedly, that's all I ever ordered, but it was very good. It was better at Dav-Ed's Deli around the corner, on 63rd Drive and Saunders Street, but they've been gone for decades.

I told you he'd remember the name of the place. He also sent me a link that may be of interest. Definitely watch the trailer.

I visited Ben's Best back in September 2007. I was back in NY for a couple of weeks on business helping out our East Elmhurst office (it was a real humbling experience to be be back in NY working as it was 15 years after I left)
I think I was staying at the Crowne Plaza (or was it the Marriott?) near LaGuardia and I decided to go to Ben's Best. I just remember everything tasted "old" even the pickles. I think I ordered the roast chicken which looked anemic and tasted "dry" I think there was another elderly couple there, other than that the place was empty. On the same trip I visited one of my old neighborhoods in Kew Garden Hills. I walked to the Jewish Deli which I used to visit circa 1990 on Kissena Blvd (I don't remember the name of it) and it had been replaced by the Dominican Diner It was on this trip that I first realized that Jewish Deli's were now a thing of the days of yore.

I think that this is the link to the video that I sent you. It's not the Deli Man trailer.
