New Portillo's In My 'Hood

Well, the now non-Roadfood chain has opened a new place in my area and I can't wait to give them a try. Beef or hot dog? I wish I wasn't dieting. My daughter, and I, can't wait to try a chocolate cake shake. It looks and sounds great!

I'm partial to the beef & sausage combo myself, and it's easily enough to feed 2 people with lighter appetites.  Get it soaked!

    Beef or hot dog?

    Both, dieting notwithstanding.

Portillo's is one of the best regional chains I've found.  I've never had anything there that disappointed me, and the precision operation of their assembly line is a treat to watch.  (I dare you to observe someone expertly seizing slices of tomato with tongs, one by one, at blinding speed, and not be amazed.)  Unfortunately, the only ways I can patronize it these days is if I take a deliberate trip, or manage to swing through on business.

I will say that Jim's Polish is a notch better, but they're the king. Portillo's is still a fine example.

Looks like Portillo's is coming to Madison, WI next year.  The "two major malls" mentioned in the story are on the east and west sides; I hope they choose the eastern location as that's the mall we go to when we go to a mall.  Also, American Family Insurance's headquarters is out that way so that's a lot of potential customers.

I don't know what the CSD scene is in Madison right now but in the past most of the places that sell them have been downtown.

Closest Portillo's to me is in Buena Park.  Usually if I make the drive there it's for Mrs. Knott's fried chicken but the last time I drove there specifically for Portillo's.  That beef sandwich is outstanding and it was totally worth the drive.

It however tried to kill me at about 3am the next morning.

Congrats Root Beer Man, on having a Portillos's in your hood.
The best, I can do, here in Colorado to satiate my Portillo's hunger is to order over the phone.  Which I have done. Last time I called, I asked when Portillos' was coming to Colorado. Much to my surprise, I was put on hold, so he could check.  And he told me there ARE plans for Portillo's coming to Colorado.  However Colorado was far down on the list.  And they base where they will be moving to, on how many out of state (non Illinois) orders the get.

I have been to the Portillo's in North West Indiana, on U.S. 30.  And just announced two days ago, Indiana will be getting a third Portillo's.

When they opened a Portillo's in Buena Park, CA, I jumped for joy! The dogs are god....but you have to try the Italian Beef sandwich too! That's excellent.

Now I live in Boise.....I hope they open Portillo's here some day.

May your wish come true.  On what now happens to be the rare times I visit a Portillo's, I have to do both.  A Chicago Dog and the Italian Beef. For me, it's a toss up. My mouth is watering, now.  Just thinking of them.

Thanks KenK! Yes, that's the dangerous thing I do too. One of each, a beer and I'm set at Portillo's.
