Thanks to all our friends who attended. Despite the hard work, this was a lot of fun for Bobbi and me. I think we finally matched the number of guests and the amount of food perfectly.

And for those of you who decided to stay home ...

p.s. CTD - We sent a box with samples of the 28 pies back for you with PieBear28 and Buddy.

p.p.s. It was kind of shocking to our non-Roadfooder guests in attendance when Danny was finally let loose with the pies. There was mayhem and carnage not seen since the days of buffetbuster and ChiTowneDiner in their primes, for those who can remember back that long ago.

Oh, dear, it looks amazing. I'm so sorry I wasn't able to attend.

David

Yes, those pies look (and were) amazing, but there were a couple of pieces of meat at this shindig worth mentioning.  JRPfeff and his support crew kept our plates full with a never ending supply of beautifully smoked and grilled protein.  Gorgeous pieces of mahogany skinned chicken, melt in your mouth tender chunks of Burnt Ends (I guess you picked up an idea or two in KC last month), rich and smoky pulled pork, some of the meatiest Ribs I've seen in a long while, moist turkey (even the white meat!), and a well prepared Brisket kept us chomping from mid afternoon until dusk.

A solid turn out by The Contingent and a private tasting of Spanish Gin made this an afternoon to remember.

Thanks Jim & Bobbi!

I finally sat down to a barbecue meal on Monday.

I think these were my best ribs ever. The smoked sausage was real good and the brisket was tasty, buy dry when I ate it. The German Potato Salad ala Roadhouse was outstanding, as was the cabbage dish and the coleslaw that were left over.

One thing about the gathering. I think less than one case of beer was consumed by the nearly 40 people who were present. Must have been all that Sprecher soda.

That fried cabbage dish was indeed excellent.  The flavor and texture reminded me of buffetbuster's favorite dish, Halushki, as prepared by my (and others') favorite Pittsburgh restaurant, Jozsa Corner.  In fact, checking recipes online indicates whatever was served is exactly like Halushki, minus the egg noodles.

Has anyone claimed responsibility for it, and are they willing to share the recipe?

I suggest for the sake of all involved that an example would not be a really good idea.

I've been sharing leftover pie at work this week with the hardcore pie lovers. The unanimous decision by these judges is the Osgood Pie is their favorite of the pies they've eaten.

The Osgood Pie is the sad looking little thing directly behind the Chocolate Walnut Tart.

Pencil in Sunday September 3 for the next event at our house. No barbecue. No (or very few) pies. We need to empty the deep freeze.

No barbecue and possibly no pies? I can bring some Korean spam to the event; I hear it's a Roadfood favorite.

Pie Diva and I began brain storming this party as I was purchasing 1.75L of Korbel and 2 liter bottles of Mist Twist and Squirt. Starting with build-your-own Brandy Old Fashioned's (we have 7 different varieties of bitters and Bobbi's homemade Maraschino cherries) we will move on to other Supper Club fare. We are serving our fish fry & sides, and also some roasted beef (tenderloin and/or prime rib - TBD) and cheesy potatoes.

To get the party started, the ultimate relish tray will be a group activity. We are providing pickled beets. First come, first dibs on filling out the rest of the tray. Carrots, green onions, radishes, olives, that's the easy stuff. Owl's Nest or Merck's - you decide, you provide.

Sign up now.

Moved to new thread.
