Only in California

First it was plastic bags,

then straws.

Now this...

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/californias-berkeley-approves-25-cent-fee-on-disposable-cups/?ftag=CNM-00-10aab7e&linkId=62769504

If there was a communal sink available for washing out our own mugs I "might not mind".

Wait til they charge for disposable forks, spoons etc....it's gonna cost more to throw stuff away than to purchase it!

There's talk of that.  Out of hand!  It's their cost of doing business and it's already in their prices.  Own up!  Raise your prices and stop looking petty for a good cause.

Now that the Chinese aren’t taking our recycling, I’d say this will become more prevalent.

Shouldn't be too big a problem. There are already biodegradable cutlery and cups on the market. If it costs more then you just have to raise prices. Foam cups and containers should have been off the market years ago.

You're not advocating plastic bags and straws are you? Our oceans are filled with them and they don't need to be used.

Not at all.  I think a deposit on a cup is ridiculous.  Want a drink?  Bring your own cup.

I prefer glass or ceramic but that dates me.

The businesses won’t do anything voluntarily unless an ordinance makes everyone play by the same rules. At least, that’s been the experience here in Southern Oregon, where my little town with a lot of eat places
banned styrofoam and plastic and so now everyone uses what RBM describes. Up the road still all plastic
    non-compostable throwaway.
