Ott's BBQ Sauce

We used the last of our Ott's BBQ (Dixie Lee Junction, TN) sauce last night. Since Ott's is closed, we're desperate to find their BBQ recipe. Anyone have it?

What Roossy posted is not the Ott's you were describing. It has been years since I have stopped at Otts. I knew they were closed and I have no idea who owned them except they were there for a long time.

Good luck and keep us advised if you become aware of what happened and where they are.

Abunting, unless you know something that I do not, which is entirely possible, Ott's has been closed for several years.

Nope, not clairvoyant or anything. Just don't know Tennessee and if Knoxville is different from Dixie Lee Jct. I just looked it up on a search engine and it gave two locations.

Dixie Lee Junction is just west of Knoxville about ten miles.

I do not think Ott's is open any longer.

Nevermind. I'm taking my last tablespoon to a Culinary Institute grad to see if she can duplicate it. She's pretty good at figuring out incredients in unknown recipes..... I'll let you all know.

I went to Ott's last evening with a friend. The pork was OK but the North Carolina BBQ sauce which is all vinegar does not agree with me. Their slaw was the same as it was highly vinegar.

They did a very nice job with their renovation of the original site as it is very very pretty but the BBQ does not cut it with me.

I had the chopped pork which was pretty tasty but when you added the highly vinegar sauce, it went down hill.

I probably will not go back.

We loved the old original OTT's BBQ and our hearts were broken when it closed. We hope to one day open something similar in flavor. My wife worked there from 19...91 until 2001 when our son was born. After they closed she had many of their old customers contacting her wanting to buy the sauce. So she bought several gallons from the guy who made it. She sold some and kept some. Then they told her they could not sell her any more because they were selling the business. So then she tried to duplicate the sauce because no one but the OTT's family knew the original recipe. After many many attempts she finally came up with what we think is pretty dog gone close. In fact I think it is just a bit better, just my opinion.
My wife also makes the slaw, that recipe was not kept secret and I think it goes best on the sandwich. Remember how they were toasted and mashed on the grill? Did you ever try it with slaw on it? That just made it wonderful to me.
For all those who loved the old original OTT's I am sure you will find that her sauce smells and taste like the original so much that you will be reminded of your experiences at OTT's.
If you would like to try a sample of the sauce, or slaw, just send me a message.

I recently found in a cupboard a bottle of Ott's sauce that was apparently made for Silver Dollar City in Branson, MO.  However, the "best by" date is 02-17-2008 so I'm not quite sure what to do with it.

The Facebook page can be found by typing in Dixie Lee Junction BBQ
This is all new to us, my wife has only made the sauce for us, but we thought others would also like to try it.
