P-30 Need to raise the roof.

Just beginning to design the build out of a P-30 food truck. Found a lot of great info in this forum. Need to raise the roof. Does anyone know what gauge Aluminum is used for the wall splice? Thank you in advance for any assistance.

    I don't know a darn thing!
But I can't wait to see what you do.

When you get it figured out, make sure and post lots of pics.

If it helps any, the factory walls on my truck are about a 6 or 7 gauge.
But I would think that you are building a framework for the raised part and only need the sheet for enclosing it.
So it should not need to be that thick.

How much do you NEED to raise the roof? And why?

Thanks for the reply. Found an exposed edge to measure on the rear door. Looks to be ~10 ga.

I am still curious as to WHY you need to raise the roof.

Looking for more storage and openness. 6'1" is a little low for some people, like my son (not me @ 5'9" I have plenty of room).

Thanks for the info. 1/8" would be around 8 gauge.

Oh heck  ... just find an old boat and rivet to the roof.   Epoxy the seams and paint to match the rest of the truck.   Then cut out the roof below.

As whacky as your suggestion sounds, it may have merit. It would certainly have a distinctive appearance and set our food truck apart from the others. Would be great if the food theme was seafood or Cajun crawdad/shrimp boils.

In your experience, did the 6' have enough drawbacks for us to convert to 7'? At 5'9" on a good day, I would not have a problem. My son at 5'11" just clears. The truck currently has hanging racks for uniforms. After we remove them and the ceiling panels we are going to look situation again.

Haha  ... whacky yes.    Just tell everyone  that you are always ready to go fishing.   A boat on top can just look like its being hauled around.     ...   But I think a flat bottom aluminum john boat with the bow to the front could look like a normal roof extension. All the bracing and skin is ready in place just attach to the top of the truck.

... just a spur of the moment 'whacky' idea  ... oh well I go back to my banana plantation here in south Georgia.

Hay ... that looks pretty good.....!!!!   But the boat doesn't have to come out the the edges of the truck roof since personnel only works near the center-line of the body.       The sides of the boat could include windows, vents & fan, and/or discharge for the hood.    ... used boats ( no motor or trailer) could be had for cheap.

.... just thinking outside of the sandbox ....
