We had a local chain, Paradise Bakery & Café, that was just bought by Panera several months ago

I thought Paradise was Panera, but with a free cookie.  They even had the same menu.  WTH?
Ours have gone under here.
Panera has two issues IMO, first they needed to have hired an industrial engineer to clear up their multiple traffic jams inside the place and second they don't seem to understand that nothing happens until they take your order and get your money. They are not adaptive to customer inflow.  Oh, and third, when you have restroom paper towels on a continuous roll, you can't replace it until it runs completely out, which will invariably happen during the noon rush.  /rant
So I guess I won't be eating any doughnuts.

My Panera closed a couple of months ago. I didn't know they also owned the Einstein's brand.

I had too many "issues" with Panera but did like them for their free wifi. I wasn't upset to see them go.

I like 3 Krispy Kreme doughnuts now and then. One is just a tease.

We have a Panera nearby.  Never been to it.  But I have been to Krispy Kreme and thought it was the worst, most absolutely sickening sweet doughnut I had ever eaten.  One bite and in the trash.  I had brought some for my Mother who had a real sweet tooth.  She hated them.  They all ended up in the trash.

I used to sometimes go to a Panera that was quite close to me. I'd get some coffee, grab a USA Today and sit by the "fire." I never ate anything there, but I would stop in to pick up a mini loaf of asiago cheese bread.

I don't get the Panera draw. Overpriced, goofy combinations of food that sometimes I'm convinced they were sitting around stoned one night and decided should go together. Long wait times, even when they're not busy. Soup supposedly made fresh on-site, but then how is it I can buy their soup at the grocery store? Likewise their "fresh" bread. It's about a fresh as Subway.

Krispy Kreme is good fresh off the conveyer, otherwise it's just yet another glazed donut.

Caribou Coffee I love, but perhaps that's because we don't have one so the only time I get any is when I'm traveling, most often in the Minneapolis airport.

All told... meh.

Agreed.  If they're not fresh off the conveyor, they're not worth it.

As a lover of a nice, warm Krispy Kreme I have to say I agree. Can't abide the old ones that you find in stores or gas stations. Fresh out of the case at a KK or off the line are the only way.

I heard a comedian talking about driving by a KK when the hot donuts sign is lit. "It'll make you wreck yo car"

The KK near me displays the sign, but they don't make them fresh there.
