In B'ton -Normal -actually outside we like a dive called the Midland Inn
steaks are great, but their specials are usually very interesting too,
plus drinks are cheap and tasty.
Sometimes on weekends they fire up a smokehouse.
You may need your GPS to find them.

Oh- wait- that's in Carbondale- I'm getting my twins mixed up LOL so bad

Got rolling early Firday morning and after a stop at Ingram's Busy Bee Bakery in Downers Grove, we hit the road.  Serena Cafe for breakfast and pie was up first followed by a strenuous 20 mile hike at Starved Rock.  The Igloo (more pie) was next followed by an audible, Crystal's Bakery.  Myrtle's Pies ( a real lot of pie) with nearly 50 varieties is a must.  Got TTM'd at Jamberry so we diverted to the Jubilee Cafe for more pie.  We got a little walk in on the Peoria river front after.  After a quick change into Lederhosen, we hit the Lindenhof German Club for their Friday night German AYCE Buffet.  The sounds of the tuba with the nine piece band still plays in my head.  A final scoop or two at Emack & Bolio's and we called it a night.

Saturday started at Shannon's Five Star discovered by Roadfood's own ChiBears15.  The Ivy Lane Bakery was pretty darn good and gave a great opportunity to explore the Bloomington Farmer's Market.  As we headed to Uncle Bob's Homemade Ice Cream, our piedar went off and we did an 8 mile u-turn into the Busy Corner Cafe.  Three slices of pie later, we hit Uncle Bob's for his homemade and must stop ice cream.  Then the highlight, smashburgers at Green Gables.  Place was rocking and for good reason...a must visit.  Off to Smitty's Tap for a BPT that exceeded the skillet it came in on.  Finished at Rip's for IRV's finest fried chicken and don't miss the mushrooms!

There we have it, 36 hours and enough variety plus 12 slices of pie!  I kept all the recs for our return trip!  Thanks for everyone's assistance!

Impressive Saturday there. I Attempted Rips last night. Packed. - I live in the area so not a big deal to miss out on some bird yesterday - I get Rips as often as I need. Lol.

Saturday lunch at Rips is something to try. No fried chicken. But wings, tenders, chix sandwiches, etc.

We were 1st table in 2nd wave after a 4:02pm arrival.  Went with 1/4 dark, 1/4 light, chicken tenders and the mushrooms!  Loved the mushrooms...and the chicken was pretty damn good also!

Our collective Piedars kept going off resulting in 12 slices over the 36 hour jaunt.  No pie at Rip's...no dessert at Rip's!

Wanted to loop back. Yes Green Gables is special. Total throwback spot that serves one of the better burgers in Illinois. If in the general area again do try Haynes on Main. Their burger rivals Green Gables though at a higher price point.

We have enough stops for a 2nd trip, perhaps sometime next year.  Haynes is on The List!
