Peoria - Bloomington - Normal

Got a short two-day trip coming up with the above three cities included.  While I have several places in mind and a good start on a short spreadsheet, I am looking for unique regional/local finds.  Dives, pies, one-of-a-kind, ice cream, bakeries, supper clubs, you name it!

If you have suggestions to make...I'm all ears!

After you pay your visit... I suspect "Normal" is going to have to change it's name...

Green Gables for sure. That’s who I meant, not lake road inn. They are right across the street from one another. Green Gables is top notch for a smash burger. Them and Haynes. I do not believe I have been to palms cafe.

Palms Grill Café has a nice Sunday chicken dinner.  Not fancy, but very good - fried chicken, mashed potatoes & gravy, and southern-style green beans.  Plus they sell pie to people who eat that stuff.

Wedron Office (Wedron) and Rip's Tavern (Ladd) for Illinois River Valley fried chicken, of course.  And while I've not yet been there, Verucchi's in Spring Valley is on the short list for my next trip to St. Louis.

I've passed around and through B-N many times but have never really eaten there...

We had an excellent meal at The Chanticleer back in April, as described here, with ChickenDude's photos here.  I'd definitely recommend the place and urge you to get the Au Gratin Potatoes as one of your sides.

So here's recommendations from my cousins in the Bloomington area:

Carl's ice cream
Schooners (BPT)
Green Gables bar & grill - by the lake
Anju Above
Old Bank (Leroy - 20 min from Bloomington)
Taqueria El Porton - they have chiles toreados so they're real deal
Fort Jesse Café - breakfast/lunch only
Rosie's Pub - Abe Lincoln's former law office

DeStihl Brewery is solid...

Sorry if I'm piling on...

I'm pretty sure my one recommendation will be in the mix.  Quality over quantity.

Verruchis is decent. More of an Italian breaded fried chicken vs the tavern style batter - typical of the IRV.

Alexander Park Tavern in Princeton is on my short list for fried bird currently. They seem to get a lot of mentions just after rips and sip n snack as the best around.
