I read some of the comments in addition to the review. While not everyone agreed with the critic, enough people did for me to now wonder if I'd still want to go there. I haven't yet.  I'd probably be more likely to choose one of the classic Manhattan steakhouses now, maybe Keens.

Is it really worth going to PL's steak house in NYC.

Pete Wells of the New York Times doesn't seem to think so:

Ouch!

And a related story:

Sounds like more NYT #FakeNews.........

Has DJT ever eaten there?
Did he stiff them on the bill, or did Rudy smooth things over?

There's an old thread somewhere on this board about the butcher job Pete Wells did on Guy Fieri's Times Square. As I said there, this review tells me more about the reviewer than the restaurant.

You lookin for 30 days?

My guy in NYC(Billyboy) posted on FB, still singing the praises of PL. I may have to call him and do some on site research.

We stop at Peter Lugers as soon as the plane lands. If the plane is late I call and tell them. Their answer is, come in and we'll have a table for yah. We walk in with our luggage and pile it near the hostess stand wall. This is old school and frills steak house. The waitstaff is long apron waiters with Brooklyn accents. They have a great bread basket, the bacon is always a good starter. The steak is wonderful. It's always been a great way to start our vacation or stopover in NYC......

He’s my guy too but I’m 3000 miles away.
I trust your research.

I was at Keen's in June. I went with the house special, mutton, which is just lamb. Maybe years ago they served real mutton, but now it's just one year old lamb. Very good, great atmosphere.

I won't scratch Perter Luger off my to-do list because of a bad review.

At Keen's the mutton is good nut the prime rib is great. Peter Liver has neither.

It wasn't just the bad review. As I indicated above, a number of commenters echoed what the critic wrote based on their own experiences.

It's probably  a moot point anyway, as the odds were that I'd have never eaten there if I've made it this long without doing so.
