Pittsburgh Crawl APRIL 28 - MAY 1

Cliff and I and a bunch of others in Chicago were talking about a Pittsburgh Crawl!  The 'Burgh is a great city with lots of good food.  There is the Strip, Market Square, and scenic places like Mt. Washington.  Anyone interested?  You all know with buffetbuster and Ralph Melton in the lead, we're all going to eat well!

Fast forward to March 3, 2016!  Ralph has posted a draft of the Crawl schedule with a Doodle Poll.  We will need to have pretty accurate head counts for some of the restaurants, the wonderful evening at the Meltons and other events.  This draft and poll can be found on page 22, post #633.  The time is getting close, folks, so don't wait until the last minute!  Looking forward to seeing everyone in Pittsburgh!!

Would this be for 2016?  Mrs. C and I would like to catch a game at PNC Park so a weekend when the Brewers or White Sox are in town would enable us to take care of 2 things at once.

Lisa,

Buddy & I were having an offline discussion about "next year's crawl" and Pittsburgh was high on the list. Having several enthusiastic hosts will make for a great weekend.

You need to think about a theme. Last year was Cinci-Style Chile, this year CSD's & Italian Beef. Will the Burgh be 1,001 ways to eat fries in your entree?

Sorry Brad. I'm pretty sure Hoffman will use his connections to ensure its the Giants at Pittsburgh during the first weekend of next May.

You need to think about a theme.

How does watching buffetbuster nap outside various Pittsburgh restaurants sound for a theme?

Count the Roadhouses in, although I was hoping to save this discussion until after the "official" Roadfood bus tour takes place in October.  Pittsburgh is definitely worth exploring, but Kansas City, Cleveland, and Detroit were also met with great enthusiasm as we discussed this issue during the Chicago Tour.  Are we making this decision now?  And what's with all this talk about French Fries on sandwiches?  Yinz got so much Primanti's on yer brains, you all forgot about the Burgers at Tessaro's!

I'd try to make that one!
Maybe a tour of the Iron City Brewery included?
Are they still making Clark Bars in da Burgh?
A trip to da Burgh is not complete without attending a church sponsored Fish Fry
OR one at the Moose, Eagles, Elks or the VFW, American Legion, or Volunteer Firemen's Hall!
There is no other region in the country where you will find as many fund raising fish fry's than Western Pennsylvania
http://www.wpxi.com/news/news/local/2014-pittsburgh-pa-fish-fry-list/ndb6j/
http://www.pittsburghcatholic.org/fishfry.php
And a plus if it includes potato pancakes, haluski and homemade pirogue's!

I thought Pittsburgh was a really cool city when Bob and I were there while on the road. I would definitely consider it( and start saving for it as I would fly in-no more loooooooong bus rides!)

One of the many great things about teaching is summer vacation.  If this is to occur during mine, count the Princess and me in.

I think we could consider merging the Glee Club session into your plan, to move it from mid-winter to a warmer time and to offer more possible targets for exploration. We would happily join with the pack for the proposed "HEADWATERS OF THE OHIO MEET N EAT".  That has a rather historic ring to it doesn't it?
We won't attempt to keep up the pace of the Chicago Challenge, but would enjoy visiting several places in Pittsburg and sharing time with our RF friends.

Thanks everyone for your enthusiastic replies about Pittsburgh.  It truly is a great city.  The theme should be "Everything Pittsburgh".  From a fish fry to sandwiches with French fries, pierogies, Eastern European food, Italian food and of course the great burgers at Tessoro's! A trip up to Mt. Washington via the incline is a MUST.......beautiful view of the Three Rivers and the City.  I also think taking in a ball game at PNC Park would be pretty cool.
