Republica Empanada Mesa AZ

Republica Empanada brings the authentic flavors of the popular varieties of Empanada's to the Desert! They are a pan-Latin bistro that specializes in Arizona's largest variety of South American style savory empanadas. Their empanadas, as well as their other dishes, represent the different regions and tastes of Latin American comfort food.
They're located in the revitalized Downtown Mesa on the NE corner of 1st Avenue & Hibbert in a renovated concrete block building that's been restored and located near the new Mesa Arts Center and the LDS Temple .
Mesa, like Scottsdale, Glendale, Gilbert and Chandler have transformed their original, Old Town areas into bustling dining and entertainment meccas. If you haven't visited these Phoenix suburbs lately, you have some catching up to do.
Back to empanada's! They're high quality ingredients, fresh, flavorful and Delicious. The recipes are authentic Latin American originals.
Today, I had the "El Capitan", a wonderfully seasoned blend of ground beef, potato, boiled egg, green olive & golden raisin. The crust was light and flavorful with a beautiful texture. Close your eyes and you're eating in Bolivia or Peru or Colombia!
I also had a " Boricua", a blend of Pernil, ( Slow roasted & specially seasoned pork) with Arroz con Gandules, rice & pigeon peas, ham hock, cooked in sofrito sauce.
The Dessert Empanada list is extensive but I chose, Guava & Cheese, a made when ordered hot, sweet empanada filled with Guava preserve & mozzarella. DELICIOUS!
Oh, and incidentally, it was 70 degrees today and I sat there enjoying this little lunch in my shorts & Tee shirt and Sunglasses! The Fiesta Bowl Football Game, Spring Training AND The NCAA Final Four Basketball Tournament, The Barrett Jackson Auto Auction, The PGA Waste Management Golf Tournament and the International Arabian Horse Show are all coming up shortly .The Indian Casinos are open 24/7.
Cast down your Show Shovel, Throw off your Parka, Turn off the electric blanket and the heat tape on the roof and come join me for a delicious Empanada at Republica Empanada in Mesa AZ. http://republicaempanada.com/ - https://www.facebook.com/republicaempanada

Foodbme - I've been dreaming of a trip to Arizona lately. Minus ten here tonight is one reason, and the food is the other.

I'll be in Arizona in 3 months and if anybody tries to put raisins in my ground beef there'll be hell to pay.

Food sounds wonderful!  But I do like the cold, the snow, my fur parka and many other things about winter.

    No Picadillo, Brad?

That Blue '61 Corvette looks like my brother's.

I think he'd rather have the '57 Bel Air.

    Back to food...

We have a couple empanada places here that specialize in them.  I find that the dough to filling ratio is always too heavy on the dough side.

    I'll take that burrito.

I will have to check this out, even though, as someone that grew up in Mesa, I have an inherent skepticism regarding downtown Mesa revitalization.  :)

Orange groves are definitely not next.

While not as many as years ago, there's still quite a few still producing and grass is abundant!
