Sad News From Cincy. Terry's Turf Club Is Closing.

Just saw a new post from Terry's Turf Club in Cincinnati that Terry is retiring and the restaurant will be closing in two weeks. This is terrible for me, as I consider Terry's to be the best burger in the region. No-one else has ever come close to the quality of burger that Terry turned out and he had a great crew! I will miss that place.

12 years doesn't seem very long...has it been the Turf Club for many years and Terry's for just the past dozen?

I couldn't say, but I think it 12 years is about right. It made a real mark in its short time. While I can't be sure as to why they're closing, it may well have to do with the owners recent problems where he fired and sexually harassed a waitress. Really not a good situation and, if that's the reason for the sudden retirement, it sucks. It's really stupid when someones idiotic behaviour destroys a great restaurant.

The closing is probably due in no small part because of this...

I've just gone from a half-seriously considered Cincinnati roadtrip for one last meal at Terry's Turf Club, to deep regret that I ever ate there in the first place.  We went there as part of the extended curriculum of the 2014 Cincinnati Chili Crawl.  Admittedly, it was a great meal and a highlight of the trip.  But watching that video turns the whole experience ugly.  Makes me mad we gave money to an imbecile of that caliber.  The one saving grace is that the folks who prepared our food and took care of us that day were good people (presumably) who deserved the consideration.

Fingers crossed, maybe the ignorant SOB will sell the joint to a more enlightened individual who will maintain the quality without being a jerk.

Sorry to see Terry's close.  They put out a first class burger.  Still, there is absolutely no excuse to treat employees (or anyone) like that.

What will happen with all those great neon signs?

Ghaz-
That would be a great home for them.

BTW, we visited the Museum of Neon Art while in Los Angeles recently and it can't hold a candle to the museum in Cincy.

They rescued the neon sign from Dusing Brothers Ice when they closed after almost 90 years, so if there's any vintage signs that they don't already have in their collection I'm sure they'll do their best to save them.

Well, here's some good news! Terry's will be closed and Terry is "retiring", but the restaurant has apparently been bought by new owners. So, the staff will have jobs and the recipes will be preserved. No word yet on whether there will be a name change. I'm glad those burgers will still be around!

I'm willing to bet a significant portion of someone else's paycheck that the restaurant will no longer have "Terry" as part of the name.

Quite possible, and I wouldn't blame a new owners for doing it. I'd keep the Turf Club, though.

More good news. We now know who the new owners are, and they're not newbies to the business! It's always nice to see that a new owner has the necessary experience to run a business!

Hate to sound like a snob, but as a BBQ lover, running the Montgomery Inn isn't a solid recommendation.  Yep, they're popular and they've been around a long time, but they've got a lot of nerve calling anything coming out of their kitchen "Barbecue".  Our one experience there was a major disappointment.

Don't know anything about Chicken on the Run.

Here's hoping they won't mess around with the current cooking methods.

While I agree about the quality of Montgomery Inn 'Que, anyone who can run a restaurant for 21 years and keep it open obviously has some skills in the biz. Never have been to Chicken On The Run, either, but it's been around 40 years and is still going strong under the current owners. These guys obviously aren't beginners and it looks like they want to preserve things as they were under Terry, (hopefully minus the sexual harassment). If the staff are happy about it and things stay the mostly the same, I'll be happy. New menu things won't bother me, either. Terry was always experimenting and adding tasty things!

Per WLWT that's exactly what's happening.
