Jim and Bobbi,

Thank you both again for putting this dinner together.  Epic stuff.  This might have been my favorite Roadfood experience in the past four years.  It is a damn shame that Brad went to see the 2nd place Brewers instead of coming here.

The MFLs concur. It was just an outstanding and memorable meal. The food was fantastic and to use an analogy that SC might appreciate, they were all home runs. I have to thank our gracious hosts for such a fine meal surrounded by good friends. Merci Beaucoup y'all.

And I'll jump in to offer thanks to JRPfeff/Pie Diva and praise for the fine food and company. Spouse and I were impressed by how well everything worked: the Old-Fashioned Bar and the relish tray table really worked. Everything was delicious, including those lovely grilled shrimps and the asparagus. I also need to get the Roadhouse Recipe for brussels sprout gratin: my favorite vegetable done in a way that I hadn't tried before. The lack of pies did not equal a lack of desserts: the cakes were all awesome. My favorite was the amazing blueberry lavender cake, and my spouse--who doesn't have much interest in sweets--went to the table for a second helping of the chocolate caramel cake. It was great seeing so many familiar faces and meeting a few new people. Thanks, Jim and Bobbi!

Could the absence of CTD possibly make the food taste better?

Echoing the sentiment of what a great afternoon/evening it was.  I think the three bean salad, the deviled eggs and sweet dill pickles were my favorites on the relish tray, the beef tenderloin was my favorite of the meats, the cheesy potato casserole was my favorite sides, and oh, I can't pick a favorite dessert...maybe the pink squirrel cake?  That frosting base was so great- simultaneously dense and light.  The caramel cake was amazing, too.

Three cheers to the Pfefferles!

Won't living vicariously through ChiBears15's photos put you on a starvation diet?

Thank you Buddy for that fine report. We really enjoyed hosting our friends again.

After the first round of cleaning, we sat by the fire pit for a time. The combination of the smoke and a light breeze kept the mosquitoes away. You might still be here if you stepped out near the fire.

A few more thoughts:
  • The Relish Tray Table was a brilliant idea and even better in reality. I take full credit.
  • The Old Fashioned Clinic was another success. By the end of the party we had several new bartenders, creating Old Fashioneds to their own personal tastes.
  • Since Al Capone Roast is already taken, we'll call that a Joe Rogo Roast in the future.
  • Bobbi prepared Buttered Button Mushrooms to serve with the beef. They were every bit as good as these. By the time she ate, there was just one left.
  • The bourbons brought by ChiBears15 and Quixote were outstanding. The differences in flavors were subtle and fun to compare side-by-side. Thank you Danny and John for the gifts.
All for now. A Labor Day 2018 party is definitely in our plans. We just need to ensure that it occurs during a Brewers homestand.

p.s. Danny was my official photographer yesterday. I eagerly await him posting his photos.

What are you trying ta say?

Recipe sent via PM as requested.  Hope you enjoy.  Any other parties interested in the recipe for this rich, luxurious vegetable dish can send me a PM and I'll pass it along.
