Southern Tier/17/86, Elmira/Corning/Painted Post

I am heading almost all the way up NY 17/I 86 to the Jamestown/Salamanca area, and was wondering if there is a decent diner type place in the Elmira/Corning/Painted Post area. Seems to be a chain desert up that way. Even a decent non chain drive in type would be great - thanks in advance!

Market St. Brewing Company in Corning, The Cellar, also on Market St. in Corning. 1157 North in Elmira If you are in Bath, NY, Stephanie's is a good breakfast spot.

We enjoyed our one visit to Texas Hot in Wellsville, NY.  As an added bonus, they also have homemade pies including the rare to find graham cracker pie.

Hi ConeyIslandLou, I put out a Facebook post to some of my friends who travel to that area and one of them suggested the Modern Diner in Wellsville.  Looks like it's just down the street from BB's suggestion of Texas Hot which looks great, BTW.  She also sent me a link to Syracuse.com's NYup.com section that had frequent articles on things to do, places to eat and such across "upstate" NY ("upstate" being a broad term that covers a LOT of ground!).  You may have to do some digging around to find out which of the 62 diners are in the Southern Tier area: http://www.newyorkupstate.com/food/2017/01/62_great_best_diners_eat_visit_in_upstate_new_york_city_long_island_county.html
I checked out the list and a couple I came up with are the Park Diner in Binghamton and The Diner in Horseheads.  Hope this helps.

My daughter lived in that area for 10 years and I have many suggestions, but  the one place you should really go to is a place called "M & M Hot Dogs" in downtown Elmira.  They serve small hot dogs with a terrific meat sauce.    You will have to have at least two!  This place has been in business 100 years.  You will love it.  In  Horseheads is a small diner called the diner.  I have been there many times.  It is not a destination spot but the food is good and very inexpensive.

Wow - this is great people! My only problem now is deciding which to stop at!
[EDIT] Correction - I believe I'm going to stop in Wellsville for the Texas Hot - the mouth started watering when i saw the pics of the dogs, fries, onion rings and shake on the RF post...lol - worth a 10 minute diversion off 17 to investigate!
