Well done, Tonto.  Now go away and amuse yourself whilst I indulge in 1950s White Privilege.

Looks like it might be a park & walk situation.  Does anyone have any objections?

I would love to be in-but again would need to ride along with someone. I am happily off that weekend.

Ann,

If we have room you can ride with us. Between our sons & the pies we may be full.

Small single-day U-Haul rentals are pretty affordable, and I'm pretty sure you could shoehorn Martin and Eric into one.

Mrs. Roadhouse quickly put up her hand for Sugar Cream.  I wouldn't mind Key Lime or Lemon Meringue, but my always thoughtful wife raised the point about maybe avoiding any pie that needs refrigeration.  So we'll happily eat whatever the Pie Diva decides to make.

I have been disappointed with Tree-Ripe lately. Since Jim works in North Carolina, I have been getting some mighty fine peaches from there

Not only is there a parade on Sunday but there's a 3-day lakefront festival running Saturday through Monday.  If we want to visit the History Center at noon - 1 hour before the parade starts - we'd undoubtedly have to park elsewhere and walk; even if nearby parking is available trying to leave the area close to parade time could be dicey.

08:30-??:??  Coffee Pot
* time permitting, walk to and around Simmons Park
11:00-11:45  Big Star
12:00-13:00  Kenosha History Center - maybe replace with something else?
13:15-13:45  Tenuta's
14:00-14:45  The Spot
* free/schedule catch-up time *
16:30-??:??  Fire Pitt

So far I haven't found any interesting attractions that aren't close to or in the festival area.

Re: Spend July 3 with The Contingent 2016/06/29 06:01:36 (permalink)
After discussing it with ChiBears15 we decided that it might be better off to avoid Kenosha's downtown and lakefront area because of the parade and festival, and save them for another day.  The latest itinerary looks something like this:

8:30-ish  Meet at The Brat Stop for a snack, then head north to Bobby Nelson's Cheese.
11:00-12:00  Big Star (Washington Rd./41st St. & 16th Ave.)
12:15-13:00  Paielli's Bakery (60th St. & 39th Ave.)
13:15-14:00  Tenuta's Deli (52nd St. & 32nd Ave.)
14:15-15:15  The Spot (75th St. & 22nd Ave.)
16:30-??:??  Fire Pitt (12417 Antioch Rd./WI-83, Trevor)

Going from Paielli's to Tenuta's does involve some backtracking but Paielli's closes at 2 while Tenuta's is open 'til 5, and we'll have plenty of time.  I'm sorry I couldn't work in a non-food stop but with the circumstances being what they are for July 3 it just doesn't seem practical.  Plus there's the time gap between The Spot and Fire Pitt for those who want to do any additional shopping, sightseeing, etc.

Current headcount for dinner stands at about a dozen:

1 - Me (possibly 2)
1 - ChiBears15
2 - Buddy & Mrs. Buddy
2 - Abe & Mr. Maki
4 - JRPfeff, PieDiva, and sons
2 - Irisarbor & Frank

As always, feedback is appreciated!

Pie Diva, I will eat just about any pie, but the butterscotch with the curry crust that you made a few years ago is a personal favorite.

If you want to go the citrus route, a good, tart key lime or lemon cream, as long as it could be kept cold, would be yummy, too.

But really, anything you make will be good, I'm sure!

JRPfeff,

LMAO!  I have to get Dale back for this one.  As for a pie request, is lemon ice box pie an option?  Will it even travel well?

I will be at the Brat Stop at 8:30 am on Sunday.  I hope to see most of you there (I know Jeff will still be sleeping though).

Treeman,

I think that one needs to be frozen. But we can take you to Woodmans and help you procure evetything you need to make your own Lemonade Pie. It is very easy to make.

You'll be waiting a long time, like until 11 and at the wrong location.  I'll order you a CheeseBurger at Big Star so it will be ready for you when you finally get tired of sitting at The Brat Stop and work your way into town.

Oh, I'll be awake at 8:30.  I'll be diligently getting ready so I'll be presentable to the public.
