I'm more likely to be able to make April 26-29 or May 3-6. April 19-22 doesn't look likely. Of course those dates have to be approved for me to be off, and that won't be for some time.

Speaking for the MOT Passover 2018 is March 31 -April 6
So those days are in the clear from that perspective.
My personal family graduation weekend is May 11-13
so the May 3-6 is less desirable in terms of possible prep.

Unless we're doing Hotdish and Swedish Meatballs and Swedish Potato Sausage in the Twin Cities...then I ain't going

WJ, you should definitely plan to visit the Fika Cafe at the American Swedish Institute in Minneapolis, which serves Swedish meatballs. http://www.asimn.org/visit/fika-cafe

And if you happen to be in Minneapolis on September 17, the Danish American Center has a monthly "Danish breakfast" which features a traditional dish, Æbleskiver, also known as pancake puffs.

Thanks Rumaki
Unfortunately we won't  be in the Twin Cities till Monday September 25 and only for 24 hours, so we're going to miss out on that Danish Breakfast
I've heard great things about Fika , if we have time, it might be a great place for us to share an appetizer of those Swedish Meatballs. Our planned meal stops in the Twin Cities are Carol's Restaurant in Blaine, Tavern on Grand in St Paul and Hell's Kitchen in Minneapolis
Our tourist destinations will include a walk around Lake Calhoun , and the other nearby lakes, Minnehaha Falls and possibly the Mill City Museum if we have time.

I will miss you, then!  I'll be in London from September 22-27.

The Mill City Museum is a fun museum, but it is closed on Mondays.  (Not sure if you meant you'd be touring on Monday or Tuesday.)

Don't get too excited about Minnehaha Falls. It is hardly Niagara.  If you are going to be in the park anyway, consider the Sea Salt Eatery.  Really excellent seafood in an informal and outdoorsy pavilion setting.  It's owned by the same people that run Coastal Seafood, which is probably the best retail purveyor of fish and shellfish in the Twin Cities. I just cooked some of their halibut last week, and they have fresh softshell crabs as a special in the late Spring.   https://seasalteatery.wordpress.com/

I've been to Minnehaha falls a few times, I know its not Niagara Falls but I just love the name.
That's a bummer that the Mill City Museum will be closed- we will be gone by Tuesday Morning making our way to Walnut Grove so I guess we're going to miss out- I've been there before but Sandra hasn't

Food wise- I think we pretty much have our heart set on the choices I mentioned previously. but thanks for the rec.

Budreaux and others

I havent been on much the past two years, since the Lafayette trip and the blasted carriage horse debacle, that has cost me two partial feet, and nine stays in hospital, totalling 18 weeks in hospital and 6 months in nursing rehab.

I would gladly put together a treatice on Nashville, (Tn or In) as well as gulf coast, or Louisiana (cajun country or Creole/NOLA)

As for dates, all are open, I just have to work dialysis into my schedule.  Just let me know if yall want.

Don,
Your very generous offer is much appreciated.  Once we nail down the "when", we'll start working on the "where".  We'd be happy to add both Nashvilles and NOLA/Creole Country to the current list of potential destinations for next spring.   The final decision comes down to those who will be attending the Crawl.

Hope you're recovered in time to join us, wherever we end up in 2018!

Since no one will take the lead, and I want to avoid the Springfield Disaster that is stirring in someone's head, time to grasp the bull by the horns.

London in May for Fish & Chips! We're going to be in the UK anyway, so if it's not inconvenient, why don't the rest of you join us for a long weekend of bangers, haggis and F&C?

Is it too early for a Doodle?

London for fish and chips? You'd get better in Springfield.
There aren't any decent chippies south of about Sheffield, never mind the Watford Gap. Posh seafood restaurants and gastropubs? Yes. Pretentious hipster pop ups? Oh yes. But for a good old fashioned chippy you want to be oop north. Stick to pie and mash and jellied eels in the smoke, if you're after road food (or, I suppose, tube food).

Folks,
I have attempted to get the ball rolling for next year's Crawl by starting a Doodle poll to choose a date for the event. I sent a PM to those who attended the last few Crawls and those I remember being involved in the discussions. Please check your In box and if I have missed anyone who might be interested in joining us in 2018 please let me know and I will PM you a link to the poll.

Cheers

John,

We are very unlikely to be able to attend. So I haven't Doodled.

However, the lure of Springfield may be irresistible no matter what the date.

John,

Just make an executive decision and pick a date.  We have to immediately start working on the "where" because Gregg wants to begin spreadsheet analysis ASAP.  Pre-Breakfast #1, Pre-Breakfast #2, ETC...

I wanted my top choice to be Cleveland.  I really did...  However, I realized that Nashville is a lot closer to Town Topic (KC) than Cleveland is.  So Nashville it is!!!

Good morning all. I started a Doodle poll a couple of weeks ago to help choose what weekend works best for most people.
This morning I would like to propose (make the Executive decision) May 3 through May 6 , 2018. By happy coincidence it is also May 3-6 up here in Canada that week so we are in!

Buddy, when you have the opportunity could you please repost some of your descriptions of the various cities that were considered for the 2017 Crawl?

Folks............. Where are we headed next spring?????

Nagle.

PS. If Rogo is still in witness protection or incognito, could someone please let him know. 😀😀😀😀😀

We are going to Springfield, IL next year, John.  You will taste some of America's greatest pizza at Gabatoni's.

You will also taste one of America's finest regional specialties... the horseshoe sandwich.

I'd be happy to reprint those city summaries along with a couple of new ones.  It'll need to wait until after the 4th of July, a day you apparently don't have on the calendar in Canada.  According to Canadian quizmaster Alex Trebek, you're celebrating some kind of 150th birthday event on July 1st, a momentous occasion marked by the consumption of Poutine Dougnuts at Tim Horton's.  I suppose that's safer than handling fireworks, but not by much.
