Steak and shake in Trouble.

Today's San Antonio Express News has an article about Steak and Shake. The company has been around for years. It was bought by a Mr.Biglari and is part of his holdings.Apparently  Steak and Shake is in trouble and there is some thought they might have to go bankrupt. www.mysa.com/business should have something on it.I think  it was him, or someone else who bought up some of the Jack in the Box's around here, like the Universal City and Schertz ones, maybe a couple of others? Anyhow they went bust. The UC one is now a mexican seafood restaurant. The Schert Jack in the Box is torn down.Don't know what will go there.

I read fairly recently that both Steak & Shakes in Bloomington, IN, have closed, although one is supposedly reopening as a franchise.  In fact, the article I read indicated that the company is trying to move away from corporate-owned outlets in favor of more franchisees.

There have been billboards in Columbus advertising that for ten thousand bucks you can have a Steak & Shake store and keep 50 percent of the profits each year, guaranteeing an annual income of $100,000. I'd do it, except I detest their burgers, their fries and their so-called milk shakes.

They closed the one down on Mt. Zion Road and I believe a few others in the area have closed as well (albeit maybe temporarily).

Looking at their Locations it looks like only five of the eighteen listed in the area are still open.

Three of the 19 in the Columbus area are "temporarily closed."

Another once proud brand a victim of
money managers? Seems like they were an iconic name in better quality FF.
We used to plan our Chicago trips around the locations along the way.
    Weird.

Hate steak and shake and wouldnt miss them.  There's one in Robinson PA close to where I work.  Never cared for the food and the service is always a crime.  If it closes, good riddance.

Five of their 15 DFW locations are "temporarily closed" -- including ours here in McKinney.

We both like S 'n S, but there are so, so many alternatives we haven't been in a decade.

For the past five years or so when we wanted "that segment" we chose our local Culver's (which issues BOGO coupons monthly).

The one near us in Rosemont, IL is thriving, in spite of sharing a parking lot with Culver's.  In fact both are doing quite nicely.

We drove past this location just a few weeks ago.  It sure looks like they have closed.

I haven't been down in the plaza for awhile BB.  Was unsure if it was closed or not.
