Swanky Franks in Norwalk CT has closed

I passed the original Swanky Franks on Connecticut Avenue in Norwalk an hour ago and saw a partially attached sign across the front door reading "Thanks For The Memories." A check of their Facebook page reveals the sad truth:

"They say that all good things must come to an end... After 60+ years in the city of Norwalk, and in our family...the Renzuella/ Satterfield family have decided to close the doors of The Original Swanky Franks... the sign on the door says it all..."

Swanky's was the second Roadfood place we went to upon moving to CT (the late Station House in Redding being the first). Many a fine meal was enjoyed there.

Now that's sad. I hadn't been there in many years, but I was planning on taking lleechef there this summer -- among a few other places.

Well, goddamnit.

Now that good weather is finally sticking around (for the most part), I've been meaning to get out to some burger and hot dog joints, some of which are strictly seasonal, like Clamp's in New Milford or the original Frankie's in Waterbury.  Guess I can scratch Swanky Frank's off my list.

That will give you more time to hit the regional chicken pie places.

You know, being a Connecticut native the only chicken pies I ever heard of growing up, and even living there as an adult, were Swanson's (or some other company) frozen chicken pot pies. And since that time the only ones I've ever eaten are the ones lleechef makes. And I might add that hers must be the best in the world.

That's OK no one in Woonsocket RI knows what a Jonnycake is and they've never had one
No one in Westerly RI knows what a dynamite is and they've never had one

No one on Long Island has ever heard of Beef on Weck and have never had one.

Michael Stern   (and Sandra)  says they're regional and they exist....so there!
