Thai Rolled Ice Cream

They make ice cream right in front of you in about two minutes without the need for an ice cream maker or freezer.  Here is a video of the process:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ybb57frsdKk

This stuff has hit Philadelphia in the past year or so and has become extremely popular. From the photos and videos I've seen, I was skeptical. I didn't think it looked like it would be creamy enough to give me the kind of satisfaction I get from regular ice cream.

Well I just tried it for the first time and I was wrong. It really was difficult to tell the difference between this and regular ice cream other than the different flavor combinations that one doesn't normally see here. I had something with chocolate and banana and had them add more chocolate syrup and peanuts. It was extremely good.

How fun to watch that process!  If it tastes good, all the better.  But with the amount of time and physical labor involved in making a single serving, I'd be afraid of long lines turning off customers.

According to a Google search, we have a place, Aha Crepe, here in Chicago serving this specialty.  I'll give them a try soon.

    Thanks for the info!

There's a place on High Street in the Short North -- just off 670.

I would totally eat that! Not with Oreo's, but definitely with other fillers. That looks pretty yummy!

I didn't notice the name of the place that I went to today, but from an online search, it appears to be Frozen. It's at the corner of 10th and Arch Streets in Philadelphia's Chinatown. I've read about very long lines at another place that sells it a few blocks away from Chinatown. But there was nobody in front of me when I went in there. It was a bit of an off time, a little after lunch on a weekday. I'm not sure if they normally do a better business.

There's one on Broughton Street in Savannah. I didn't try it. Leopold's is just too big a draw for me.

It seems to work. Would it taste any different? If not.like Buddy said above, seems like a lot of slow effort per customer. It'd be a novelty here, but would people keep coming back?
