Do you already have a parking pass? I have an extra preferred pass if you need one and we can somehow meet.

Thanks for the offer, but StubHub came through for me so we're not going to the game.  Mrs. Chicken is staying home today to clean the house but I might make the trip over to Gus', although I'm going to skip the rest of the day.

JRP, are you still thinking about Ivan's?

We're leaving here at 10 and should be in East Troy by 10:45 or so.  First one to Ivan's gets a table for 4, unless anyone else is going to be there.

However, I promised Mrs. C that we'd be home by 2 so I will be unable to join you at Pizza Hut for Bud Light and stuffed crust pizza.

Yes.  I convinced her that with everything that she's been working on and everything that's going on this week she deserves a break today.  Any chance we could switch Ivan's for McDonald's?

It should be noted that JRPfeff and the Pie Diva visited LD's BBQ separately from the rest of the group.  Although there were some high points (ribs were great, brisket was very good, slaw and beans were standout sides), we were only modestly impressed with our visit.

HOWEVER, oddly enough, my leftovers (which were eaten over the next couple of days, when I wasn't stuffed from all the donuts and Grilled Cheese/Cheeseburgers we had earlier that day), were much better than the fresh stuff we had Sunday.

Just goes to show you, always walk into a BBQ Joint/Fried Chicken Shack/Burrito House hungry.

We got a half pound of pork, chicken, brisket & sausage and took it home. 3 hours later we were ready to eat. We enjoyed everything. Bobbi really liked the pulled chicken.

Pizza hut does bbq?

It's a version where instead of cheese, the crust is stuffed with Lloyd's Barbecue.  Pizza Hut and Lloyd's...2 great tastes that taste great together!

ann,
Some of the food was really good, other items were mediocre to downright poor.  For instance, the Pulled Chicken we were served, the same Pulled Chicken JRPfeff is praising a few posts north of here, was bone dry.  I'm not saying he's wrong; the portion he and Pie Diva got may have been better than what we received.  But what we tried was dry and flavorless, barely helped by a healthy dousing of Barbecue Sauce.

Also, if you read my post carefully, you'll see I did qualify my comments by saying we may have been influenced by being stuffed from earlier stops.  My leftovers tasted significantly better than the original servings because I wasn't engorged.

Taking all of that into account I would say LD's provided a good, but not great experience.  If I was driving past, and needed a bite to eat, I would give them another try.  But I wouldn't make a special trip or go out of my way for their 'Que.

Does that clarify?

You probably didn't use the right kind.  Next time, try Kraft's "Back Seat" sauce.

Mrs. Chicken and I met JRPfeff and Pie Diva for breakfast at Ivan's on the Square.

East Troy really does have a square, anchored by a memorial wall and a center pavilion.

We also noticed that right next to Ivan's is the East Troy House, Wisconsin's oldest inn and tavern (1842).  Hmmm...a Friday fish fry.  Duly noted for future reference.

Ivan's very much retains the feel of a building 100+ years old.

Our breakfasts: JRPfeff's Fiesta Scrambler (I think), Pie Diva's cinnamon roll pancake, Mrs. C's biscuits and gravy, and my Ivan's Big Breakfast ($7.99 for those of you who wonder about such things).

My breakfast was solid, anchored by the very good hash browns and meaty bacon.  My wife felt that the biscuits weren't anything special, but we agreed that the gravy had good flavor and plenty of sausage.

From there it was a short drive west to Gus's Drive-In, the official meeting point and kickoff spot for the day.

I ordered a Maxwell Street polish sausage, and while it was just fine I wish it would've been deep-fried.

Then the Parade of Burgers began, with Quijote starting us off with an order of mushrooms on the side.

JRPfeff added a Haystack Burger to the lineup.

I'm not sure about the one on the left but the other is the 4x4, which features a pair of grilled cheese sandwiches in place of the bun.

It's too bad Dick Enberg wasn't with us, as it definitely merited an "Oh, my!"

After that we had to head home while everyone else continued on with the day's activities.
