I've been wanting to get Quijote #2 to a Wisconsin supper club, so we would be strongly interested in this, especially if it's Coerper's ( = 5 O'Clock Club) or something else like that in the Milwaukee area.

Q, Yelp has 33 pages of Milwaukee supper clubs for your browsing enjoyment.  I suspect some are more "supper clubby" than others but I'll bet you can find some close to home.

Another vote for Coerper's. Guess who gets to eat meat again on dialysis?

Do they have nice baked potatoes with crsipy skin?

They have huge baked potatoes, but are priced ala carte. We need to make a choice, people.

We did go to a (more or less) supper club in Madison (the Tornado Room) recently and enjoyed it, but I would like to get Quijote #2 to a truly good Milwaukee-area place. The problem is that he is very (let me repeat: VERY) biased against supper clubs and steakhouses in general. Many of these places charge lots of money for food that's mediocre or worse, and who wants to pay $40+ for a steak that one can otherwise procure from a good butcher and cook perfectly at home? He's from Colorado and has had some amazing steaks in his lifetime, but he also has lived in other places and has had to shell out big bucks for crappy food at "highly regarded" restaurants living off of their past glory. This can happen anywhere, but in our experience, supper clubs and steakhouses seem particularly prone to this problem. This is why we go just about anywhere else when we go for a big night out--other expensive cuisines (sushi, French, bistro Italian, small plates, etc.) seem to be a lot more reliable for the money (for us). So, if I can convince Quijote #2 to take a chance on a place (like Coerpers?) that seems truly good, perhaps with the option of trying different things (if his dish isn't up to snuff), then maybe the supper club/steakhouse experience will work for him. I don't quite have the strong sentiment that he has against such places, but I can see where he's coming from. $40 or more for a steak, not including sides? That money could buy lots of amazing food at other places that we know will do a great job. For us (and especially for him) to take the leap, it has to be as sure a bet as possible, so if our fellow Contingencies are solidly behind a place, that's a good sign for us. (And btw, many of the restaurants on that list--such as Odd Duck and The Noble and Maxie's--are places we like, but aren't supper clubs [or in the zone] at all.)

Q - I think there are 2 types of supper clubs - big city (MKE) & tourist trap (Dells) places with the $40 steaks and rural places with $25 steak dinners. I don't think they are exactly the same, and enjoy both. We'll certainly hit both types on our various nights out, so you can choose the ones that you think Q-squared will enjoy most.

I proudly take every out of towner to 5 OClock-and usually the steaks are proclaimed to be the best they have ever had. Yes, potatoes are ala carte, but  your dinner includes a salad( great dressings) a relish tray, breadsticks and warm bread. Who needs a potato?

Bobbi talked to some friends who say that Coerper's is the best steak in Milwaukee (they are planning their wedding reception there). Reservations are a must. We will call tomorrow.

We need a head count by 4:00 on Tuesday for dinner at 5:30 this Saturday evening.

Count us in for 2.  Mrs. Roadhouse and I will be belatedly celebrating our anniversary.  Coerper's 5 O'clock Club looks like a winner.

I can actually make a reservation right now online. I looked it up and they have an opening for 12 around 5:00. What say you? And I will follow up tomorrow when they are actually open-again, they recognize the Peeples name as we bring everyone there! I am not bragging-they always say " we know you" when I call....

I'm in for one and definitely look into the semi-private dining option.

I'm thinking NFL-oriented sweatshirts, flannel, and jeans might not quite cut it when it comes to attire.

Oh no-this is not southern Kenosha. Be aware people, this is not in the best part of Milwaukee. There is valet parking, but Bob and I have never had a problem parking across the street from the restaurant. Just don't stop at any of the gas stations on or off the freeway. Otherwise its a well patrolled part of time......and do we have fun stories about the place!

What would be the best way to get there?  I was thinking I-94 east and exiting at St. Paul Ave., and then 25th St. north to State St. to get there, and 27th St. south to St. Paul and St. Paul west to I-94 to get home.

Plus it'll be daylight at the start of dinner and early evening when we head out.

Will the reservation accommodate more than 12 people? On the Contingent FB page, I think stricken, MFL, CSD, and maybe more expressed interest.

To Buddy or anyone who likes good Irish music: The Milwaukee Irish Cultural Center has a concert at 7:30 with a group called the Murphy Beds. The Center is very close to the steak house and we plan to attend after dinner.

Brad. Brad. Brad.

There is an exit at 27th Street. Take it, turn left & go over the freeway. Stay in that far left lane IIRC. Go N to Wisconsin Ave. Turn left again, and the next set of lights by the school is 27th street.

For anyone used to buying weed at the gas station at that corner, it is not there anymore.

Turn right onto 27th St, go north until State Street, turn right, go down a few blocks.

At least that is what I would try...

Coming from the west you exit at 26th St. Take 26th north about 6 blocks to State. Wave at me working 2nd shift that day at the building on your right hand side on 26th between Kilbourn and State. Turn right on State. There's no reason to take 27th St and backtrack.
