I kind of suspected that might be the case.

I can put the bill on a credit card if no one else wants to, and then break it down later:

(individual entree / entree grand total) x total bill = individual share

For a party of our size it's likely an 18-20% gratuity will be on the bill.  I'm guessing that the majority were planning on using plastic anyway so no need to bring cash; I'll take a personal check either tonight or in the mail.

It'll be fun to see my wife's reaction when she sees the credit card bill.

Really , really good dinner. Fun with friends and food. Um, prime rib is new to this restaurant, and I wanted to try it. I have had their wonderful filet( 16 oz) and bone in rib eye. Brad got the last of the prime rib. I was beyond pissed( just kidding) Anyway, I am sure pics to follow.

In addition to the injured suspect, three other people found at a nearby apartment were arrested.
Police provided no other details of the incident. Oct. 17, 2015 10:18 p.m.

Although no one knew the details, the cordoned-off apartment building was mentioned at our end of the table.

I got there early enough to park close to the restaurant and State St. is fairly well-lit, so I had no problems other than the people driving like idiots on 27th Street.

I really enjoyed dinner and between the bread sticks, relish tray, bread, and entree I got by just fine without ordering any sides.  Although apparently I should change my screen name to PrimeRibPariah...

It was all over the news this morning how you snatched that last slice of prime rib away from Ann.  You should be ashamed of yourself.  We called Crabill's and you are officially banned!

Actually, we drove, unwittingly, right through it.  The cops were out in force with lights flashing.  No effort to stop us or even slow us down as we drove north up 25th Street.  Guess we didn't look suspicious enough.

As for dinner, it is always a delight to meet up with The Contingent.  The food was wonderful, but I came to the realization that I'm just not a "steak guy".  Don't get me wrong, I enjoy a good hunk of beef, but I'd much prefer it in the form of a Smoked Brisket, a juicy CheeseBurger, or incorporated into some ethnic dish or other recipe.

The highlight of the night was the Chocolate and Salted Caramel Cake made by Pie Diva.  In spite of her renown as a maker of Pies, I think this may have been the best thing she's made yet, at least of the things I've tasted.  I said it last night and I'll tell the world, this was the cake I've waited my whole life to eat.  Moist and dense devil's food cake, rich dark chocolate frosting, and ribbons of salted caramel that added not just flavor, but a slightly chewy textural component that made this cake sing.

Naturally I demanded the recipe so Mrs. Roadhouse can recreate the cake for my next birthday.  Thank you Pie Diva for the perfect capper to dinner!

I made a major mistake on Saturday, I didn't listen to Ann. I should have listened and ordered the 16 ounce filet. Bobbi let me have a few bites of hers and it was really outstanding. It was charred black on the outside and medium rare in the middle. My porterhouse was good, not close to that filet.

Bobbi had wanted to make that cake for quite a while. When we heard it was Jeff & Susie's anniversary she had her reason. That was a good cake.

I must be weird!  I do not need "pictures" to  enjoy the reviews of the supper club.  Sounds like everyone had a great time  and it is fun to imagine  what the food looked like.

Lisa, if you friend me on Facebook you can see them. ;)

What a great time.

After over 10 years trying to eat as little meat as possible, dialysis team says I can and should, eat more meat.

This was a perfect start.

Annie was sitting next to me which was good cause we needed to catch up. We missed Bob, but maybe next time we go he can make it. Ann got the filet, I got the "steak and cake"--a 12oz ribeye delmonico (which is what I always get at Machine Shed if I'm in a steak moooooood), medium with 2 crabcakes and a side of garlic remoulade. I added a baked potato because I love them.

MFL was sitting across from me and got the Porterhouse. We swapped forks at one point and his steak was pretty flavorful. Ann and I also shared pieces of our steaks and hers was melt in your mouth good.

There is steak. And then there is steak done right. These people know how to make a steak dinner.

And last but not least, Bobbi's amazing cake. I would do some very bad things to taste that cake again. Illegal things. Like ripping the tags off a mattress or pillow.

Yeah, that cake was to die for. Thanks to those who shared with me-if I had eaten a whole piece I would have gone into a coma!
And can you believe Screaming Chicken didn't even offer me a taste of the prime rib he stole from me?

Then you probably won't ever want to shake hands with me, either.

Actually, there'll be only a couple of photos from me as the setting just wasn't conducive to taking a lot of shots.  The servers passed by one side of the table on their way to and from the kitchen and I wasn't about to create a traffic hazard, and next to the other side at my end was a small table where an older couple was enjoying what I think might've been a special night out; I didn't want to disturb them, either.

I'm sure you'll all be happy, though, that I did manage to immortalize the Infamous Prime Rib on film.  I'll have 8x10s at our next event and will be happy to autograph them.

For a small fee, of course.

You are truly one of the most selfless people I know.

And now that we're putting the 5 O'Clock Club behind us and looking forward, events like this could end up being a bit spendy if we try to do them too often.  How would you all feel if we kept it to 3 or 4 supper club visits a year (maybe coincide with the seasons?) to make it easier for more people to participate?

Brad,

That seems like plenty. I also suggest finding some rural Clubs that are cheaper. Most are nowhere near as costly as 5 O'clock Steakhouse.

EDIT: Looks like JRPfeff and I were typing responses at the same time, and are thinking along the same lines...

ChickenLips,
I don't disagree on the splurge factor involved in this dinner.  However, I think 5 O'clock Steakhouse is probably at the high end of the price range, even for Supper Clubs.  I don't remember Saxes or any of the other full dinner/full service places we've visited running quite that expensive.

Still, you're probably right to limit the Supper Club meet-ups to once a season, only so we keep them special.  In future we should probably keep them in the $18-$30 per entree range.  Shouldn't be too tough for most Supper Clubs.

OTOH, that time limit should in no way apply to our usual Contingent cheap eats fests.  JRPfeff has at least one proposal in the hopper and I've got the Fox River Valley Taqueria Run in the works for next spring.  I think it might be useful to start a new thread for a Contingent Wish List, a place where we can go to pitch and discuss loosely thought out ideas for future tours.  Once there's enough support for a specific tour, we can give it its own thread.

Just a thought.

Buddy
