Feb. 24 is 3 weeks away...any additions or confirmations?

Unfortunately, I have meetings at work that day until around 4 pm, so wouldn't be able to get to the restaurant until around 6 pm or so. Have fun!

While we older folks can probably do an earlier start, I think the young'ns down Chicago-way might have problem getting up there that soon.  What with their working and all.  That's if they're attending at all...

Yeah, I don't think we'd be able to leave the area until 4:30 or so, and that's if I pick up Mr. Maki at work in Evanston, rather than him driving back to AH first.

I'll contact Mad Dan's and ask about their practices for groups of a dozen or so.  If we can get reserved seating for 6:00 or 6:30pm I'm certainly fine with that.  Does 90 minutes look about right for a trip from Des Plaines or Evanston?  I'm sure there'll be some Friday night WI-bound traffic but not like there'll be once the warm weather hits.

90 minutes would be plenty of time, even with (reasonable, not crazy) rush hour traffic.

I just called Mad Dan's for a little more info and the person I spoke with said that if a group of 12-15 people (which is where I think we'll wind up) showed up in the 6-6:30 window the wait for a table would probably be at least an hour, and they don't take reservations on Fridays so obviously the earlier (or later, but not everyone may be OK with that) we get there the better chance we'd have of a shorter wait.  Thoughts?

Could a Subcommittee arrive early to get The Contingent in the queue for the 6:00 or 6:30 seating?

Beer battered walleye at North Avenue Grill.

Walleye ($12.99) was first rate. The potato pancake had a "different" taste we didn't care for.

I should be able to be there by 5:30 but I don't know if my presence alone would be enough to hold a table, although I'll give it a shot.  I'd say the best bet is to get as many people there as soon as possible to establish ourselves so that when Quijote, Sancho, Abe, and Maki get there in the 6-6:30 window we're ready to go.

Nice walleye.  No idea what the mystery flavor in the potato pancakes was?

Essence of dirty flattop.

Good news!  Mr. Maki had to take the 24th off for an appointment, so we can be wherever, whenever in the afternoon/evening.  Just tell us where and when!

Great!  I'm thinking if people get to Mad Dan's between 5:15 and 5:30 we should be in good shape.

That leaves the still-uncommitted Quijotes and Irisarbors as possible late arrivals...you're welcome to join us even if you're a little late and we'll be glad to make room for you.

Hello SC and the Rest,
It looks like the two Quijotes will have to sit this one out. I've had bronchitis for over a week, and now it's pneumonia, and I have laryngitis on top of it. If I'm feeling better by Friday, I suspect I'll be very content just staying in Milwaukee and enjoying my first real drink in weeks.

Another evening of good food and friends; hopefully everyone made it home without any trouble.  As I headed northwest the roads and bridges (especially) started to get a little slippery so the return trip took probably 10-15 minutes longer than the earlier drive.

Mad Dan's proved to be a solid entry in the Fish Fry category.  Stolley's Hogg Alley still reigns as the best of the bunch, so far, but everything last night was very good.  The fried blue gill platter provided a generous portion of tasty little fillets, and a hefty mound of au gratin potatoes.  In spite of some menu confusion over what was and what wasn't an AYCE item (sorry CSD, my fault), everyone in the Roadhouse clan left satisfied.  The additional couple of bucks for an extra side of potato pancakes was totally worth it.  Not the best we've had, but they were up there in the top ranks.

As the temperatures dropped and minuscule amounts of snow began to flurry, we capped off the night standing outside, sipping shots of Kringle Cream in honor of our CheeseHead/Flatlander alliance.

Weatherwise it was a crummy day but like a lighthouse guiding weary sailors safely to shore, Mad Dan's PBR sign...did something.  Sorry, the analogy train went off the tracks.

Exhaustive research confirmed that Mad Dan's makes a very good version of the Wisconsin State Cocktail.

The bread didn't last long.

Perch.

Bluegill.  Not "blue gill".

The AYCE haddock/chicken/"crab styx" plate.  All were very good.

Next time this guy's not invited.
