Roll Call for Stoneridge next Friday!

"Buckets of Fish Fry to Go!"  I say we just get 3 20-piece buckets and a couple of cases of Schlitz and go hang out at a park.

Depending on the weather, I might be convinced to go along with this (Mrs. Roadhouse is a tougher sell, especially it it's hot that night).  Not much of a Schlitz drinker though, so I'd have to forego my cocktail.  Uh-oh, you're losing me...

When your group shows up at the fish fry , is the food served family style or is it a buffet style? This is an open question. Thanks.

It's never served buffet style (at least none of the places we've visited so far), always delivered to the table by a server.  There are a few places that serve it up family style, but mostly it's served as an individual portion that can be refilled in the case of an AYCE situation.

And at the higher class joints you get up and rotate around the table to music, preferably the Chicken Dance Song, then sit & eat when the music stops.

http://www.stoneridgeinnhalescorners.com/fullmenu While I'd hope we will be seated in the "supper club" area, I suspect we will be seated in what I call the Friday Fish Fry overflow room. (see below) Nothing wrong with it but it is more of a wedding hall/NASCAR bar atmosphere. I'm not sure what I'm having but prime rib is only served on Saturday. Their steaks are first rate and they often offer a prime cut as a special. Even on a Friday, it wouldn't hurt to ask. They offer a Prime cheeseburger but I've never ordered one. I've never had a bad meal here or under the previous owner, Diamond Jim.

Re: The Contingent's Wisconsin Supper Club, Steakhouse & Fish Fry Tour 2017/07/15 14:04:17 (permalink)
Another winner under our belts!  The Roadhouses went for the fish last night and were very happy with their choices.  Mrs. Roadhouse had the broiled cod, while I went with the Pecan Crusted Fish Fry.  My only disappointment was in the Potato Pancakes.  Judging by their uniform shape, color, and texture, I'm guessing they were a frozen institutional variety.  Still, not bad for what they were.  I hedged my bet and ordered a Twice Baked Potato in addition.  It was very good with plenty of shredded Wisconsin Cheddar melted on top.  The Clam Chowder was quite tasty too.  Thick and rich with an abundance of clams, its only fault; it was a little too salty.

After dinner we reconnoitered at Kopps for Frozen Custard.  We split a double scoop of Sprecher's Root Beer Float, made with Root Beer Custard and topped with a drizzle of Sprecher's Root Beer syrup.  In spite of all that, it wasn't overly sweet.  The only thing missing was the fizz.

After that we headed our separate ways.  Mrs. Roadhouse and I headed in to Milwaukee proper for the annual Bastille Days Festival.  Our kids, abe_froeman and Mr. Maki were already there catching a performance by NOLA band Cha Wa.  They were pretty good, but I suspect they're best appreciated as a live act.  We walked around the several blocks of the fest checking out the many food vendors (just looking, no eating) and passing several performance stages until we got right to the outer edge of the grounds.  That's when I heard the distinctive sounds of gen-you-wine Delta Blues wafting towards my ears.

It was rich and full and so authentic you could almost hear the scratches on the record.  As we drew closer we realized that full sound was coming from a two man busker band called Boo Bradley.  One tall skinny guy (Bradley) was whisking out the rhythm on a well worn washboard with various metal bowls and other objects attached to it in order to achieve a wider range of sounds.  Boo was sitting next to him, singing lead and playing slide guitar on an old steel framed beauty.  An open head tambourine was wrapped around his left ankle, while his right foot played a bass drum pedal slapping up against the suitcase he was sitting on.  They were an amazing sight and produced some soulful sounds.  Check 'em out.

Believe it or not, not a single camera was present at dinner.  If you want to see the fish, you'll just need to join us on the next meet up.

Take it back Roadhouse. Just because Mr. 1860's Photo Technology was not present, does not mean images were not captured.

An entire 2 weekends in a row without a Contingent dining adventure. I think I am developing Contingent Withdrawal Syndrome.

There is a cure:

Bienenstichkuchen

A delightful German dessert; almond flavored custard mingled with yellow cake pieces, honey, Bavarian creme and sliced almonds.
