Seasonal bump...

Any ideas for a Spring Fling?  Now that we're on CDT I'm guessing people might not mind a little more driving, especially if we schedule an early dinner.  From the previous page:

Michael's on the Lake is in Kansasville, east of Burlington.
Dover Inn is north of Kansasville on WI-75.  They have broasted chicken on the Friday menu as well.
Colony House is in Trevor, very close to the state line.  This might be the first menu I've seen offer prime rib on the kids' menu.
Sportsman's Landing is on Wind Lake, which is a little bit more of a drive than the others.  It might be a better choice for spring or summer, and they also offer a "Supper Club Saturday" menu.
Silver Lake Marina is east of Twin Lakes.
75th St. Inn is in Salem.
The Waterfront on Brown's Lake is just east of Burlington, and appears to be a little more upscale.  Once the warmer weather gets here I'll be checking out the Tuesday all-day chicken special.

Naturally, there's a catch (pun intended): I haven't been to any of these places and am working off of only what I've found online.  And while I don't mind visiting restaurants for the first time, I understand that others might prefer a destination that comes with a personal recommendation.

There's been some discussion of making Hob Nob a near future choice.  I know it gets mixed reviews from some Contingencies, but it might be worth checking out.  I get the impression the big objection is to their Fish Fry.  Maybe if we focus on the rest of the menu we can reach a consensus.

Definitely Mark. We're going to the free day at the Milwaukee Art Museum on Thursday. How about somewhere then?

There's a free day at the Milwaukee Art Museum???  We might just join you.

For those who might not be aware, "Buddy" is just a nickname.  His real name is Benjamin Kubelsky Roadhouse.

In the On Short Notice department, I'm free of the ol' ball & chain this weekend.

We should consider Sunday brunch as a viable meal for this thread.  That way Li'l Sparky can join us sometime without having to take a vacation day.

Sunday would be great for me.  However, my first free Sunday isn't until June 17th.  We probably don't want to wait that long.  I appreciate you taking my schedule into consideration though, Brad.

You mean they haven't been kicked off The Continent yet?

Trail's Lounge is one of the possibilities for me this weekend.  I don't eat salad but I'd like to see their mobile salad cart in action.

So many choices...

Howdy.
I won't be available for anything until after June 3rd. After that, I'm pretty open until mid-to-late July, except for Mondays.

Sounds like we might have the makings of a casual (non?)supper club get together this Sunday.  Maybe make a day of it?  Couple of quick places in the afternoon followed by dinner?  Or is that overreach?  Interest, ideas?

Iron Grate BBQ???

BIG FAT EDIT TO COVER MY STOOPIDITY: I completely forgot, we are picking up the world travelers from the airport this Sunday at noon(ish).  We could still be available a little later in the day and even the evening, but we'll need to play it by ear.

ScreamingChicken
On a dreary day a week before Christmas I took a drive up to the hamlet of Pipersville and Donny's Girl Supper Club, which had been on my radar for several years and is also featured in Wisconsin Supper Clubs: Another Round.

The bar area, a critical component of a credible supper club.  The larger of the 2 dining rooms is through the archway.

I was seated in front of the window in the smaller dining room.  The smaller but nicely appointed salad bar can be seen just through the doorway.

Sweet with fruit.  Accept no substitutions.

Warm bread and real Wisconsin butter.  I could've polished off the entire loaf but managed to exercise some restraint.

This may have been the hottest crock of BFO I've ever been served; it stayed plenty warm for the entire time it took for my entree to arrive.  And it was also extremely good, which meant I burned my mouth.  But it was worth it.

As it was Sunday my first choice for dinner was fried chicken, not only because I like it but also because Donny's serves family style fish and chicken on Fridays and I wanted to see if it might be worthy of a Contingent dinner.  However, when I mentioned it to the actual Donny's Girl (she was tending bar that afternoon) she pushed me toward something a bit more hearty and since prime rib isn't limited to Saturdays I went that route.  IT was a very nice piece of beef with good flavor and one of the more well-done and rosemary-seasoned crusts I've come across.

The odometer said the trip was about 47 miles each way and it was worth it.  I still need to look into that fried chicken...

Properly relocated...

How about Donny's Girl for the next Contingent Supper Club? Brad says it is great.

The place was very busy and looked cute as hell when I passed it each way when we went to Watertown for that meal. Looks like a great choice.

Sounds like a good choice, but I might need to miss it if we're aiming for June.  My weekend work schedule filled up through the end of the month.  If we pick a date in July, I can make sure to set it aside so I don't get scheduled.

ScreamingChicken,

I saw you drooling about mushrooms in another thread, which brought to mind the buttery sauteed mushrooms served with the steaks at Palmer's. They are so good that we remember them more than our entrees.

Have we decided on a date or location for the next Contingent Supper Club gathering?

Buddy & Brad,

Since you don't Facebook, here are some highlights from our visit to Newport Shores last week.

Brandy Old Fashioned (w/butter pat for scale) just $4.75.

Nowak (Junior) Cut Prime Rib, $21.95 (less $5.00 with Entertainment coupon). Supposedly 12-14 ounces, this was at least one pound, maybe even the Pill Cut.

We'll go back once the coupon blackout period ends.

Canada Day Party! (Off topic, but a Contingent outing anyway.)

This Sunday, July 1 @2:00 at the Pfefferle Compound in Pewaukee.

The menu is coming around with a definite fake-Canadian theme. The meats will be Canadian Bacon, Montreal Smoked Meat, Plank-Smoked Salmon, Maple Glazed Pork Belly, and Smoked Polish Sausage. Thirteen mystery desserts will be offered.

Bring a dish or beverage to share.

Sorry for the late notice here, but this was long in planning on Facebook.

s_d, one way or another we'll get you there.  May need to execute the original plan from Smoke/Pie Day; dropping off passengers then coming to pick you up, but we'll figure it out.

On the food side, we're thinking about bringing Quebec Style Baked Beans (secret ingredient:Maple Syrup).  Also, just bought a big bottle of vodka for preparation of the Canadian National Cocktail, The Bloody Caesar!  Other than the vodka, all ingredients (Clamato juice, spicy green beans, special rimming salt) are authentic Canubian, smuggled in by nagle and Wawa Mama when they came down for the Nashville Crawl.

See you Sunday!
