The End of Santa Fe Bite

Santa Fe Bite is shutting down.

We’d like to thank the community for their loyalty and support over the years. Especially during a difficult move from our old location. Many of our loyal customers followed us to a location and building which was completely different from before, they gave us a chance to succeed during a very scary and risky transition

We are leaving for a number of reasons, some personal, some logistical, our lease has ended but basically am not able to do this kind of work anymore. Also we were not able to reach an agreement with the new landlords which would be mutually beneficial. The new lessor has a great plan for the Inn which will significantly upgrade an infrastructure which has been neglected for a very long time. We wish them the best and am anxious to see the fabulous transformation which they have promised to make.  Our last day will be October 26th. At this point we have no plans to relocate elsewhere.
Much love and gratitude from us both and our employees -  John and Bonnie Eckre

I believe that they are staying open just so Sandra and Dale can visit. They may have never closed if wanderingjew hadn't popped the question.

A short quiz for small businessmen:

When, after your blood, sweat, and tears, your enterprise begins to produce a consistent, substantial positive cash flow, your best "move" is to:

a) trade the "beaters" for "his & her" Escalades
b) move into that 4,000 sq. ft. McMansion of your dreams
c) take steps to own your premises

The success that my father obtained began the day he purchased the building which housed his business. My brother followed that same path and both were quite successful.

When you are working for the landlord that’s always above youboiled seafood restaurants houstonr head. Working for yourself isn’t the same when you first have to pay someone else.

A couple observations from my two visits.

A - John & Bonnie work very hard, they are always there.

B - They are not young.  Maybe the lease troubles is a blessing in disguise.

3 - Maybe we should put together a caravan and give them a proper send off?

You are correct!

Under any scenario - even fatigue or business failure - you will always be farther ahead.  Owning the premises is the small businessman's "401K".

Not necessarily true.  Assuming you have a loan on the building, if the business fails and you were counting on some of the proceeds to make payments on your building, and you can't get a tenant, you could lose the building and any equity you have in it as well if you can't find a buyer.  Moreover, most of the time you have to sign personally on these things, so it can impact your personal finances and holdings as well.

Even if you own it outright, and the business fails, if you can't find a buyer and can't make the tax payments, you can lose it as well.  There are plenty of areas and business parks where they have properties sitting for years.

I'm so bummed to hear this.  I was just a few miles down the road from their original Bobcat Bite location a few weeks after it had closed and they had yet to open the new Santa Fe Bite.  Oh, my terrible timing!!  Best wishes to John and Bonnie in the next, presumably more relaxing chapter of their lives.

If anybody’s in the Santa Fe area this weekend, meet me at Santa Fe Bite. I’ll be having a green chili cheeseburger with fresh mozzarella!

Re: The End of Santa Fe Bite 2018/09/26 10:15:47 (permalink)
With the countdown in full swing, many Roadfooders have been looking at their calendars and attempting to squeeze one more Green Chili Cheeseburger in.  Some "All Talk Folk" (ATF's) even have picked a date only to sheepishly back out after "others" coordinated trips on the same date.

In an emergency meeting of the Beefcake1 Fan Club & members, we discussed the need for boots on the ground in Santa Fe. With no other Roadfooders scheduled to be in the area before the date with destiny, immediate action was required.  Joe Rogo was nominated, seconded and unanimously confirmed to be our representative at the wake.  This will be no doubt be the "Official" Roadfood visit so send your PM's to Joe with your personal messages to be delivered.

Joe will also be packaging GCC for shipping.  Send cash and the number needed.  The Sultan will be soliciting donations to offset Joe's travel expenses with a Go Fund Me page in the near future.  Stay tuned....

Killing two birds with one stone is commonplace for our own Joe Rogo, but the chance for a last meal at Santa Fe Bite and to be close at hand on the wedding night for The Sultan was sheer beauty.  The definition of a true friend!

While the wedding night photos are posted at Joe's discretion, here's a look at the secondary target....

Bonnie with Joe....

And a little something to go...
