The Stack closing in Kansas City

After 27 years, The Stack in Kansas City, Missouri is closing at the end of business today.

This barbecue restaurant was founded as the Smokestack by Mary Fiorella McPheron, the daughter of Russell and Flora Fiorella who started the original Smokestack on 71 Highway. Other former Smokestack locations are now called Jack Stack Barbecue and operated by Mary's brother, Jack.

This location was then run by Mary's children and then by some long term employees. Its reputation went down hill over time and it closed in 2013. Finally, long term customers purchased and remodeled the restaurant and The Stack BBQ reopened with. former employees working there.

We thought The Stack was very good. One of my favorites.

We had Jack Stack catered in a fair number of times when I worked in KC... but I don't recall ever having The Stack. I wonder if they were using the same recipes.

We had a Chicago Symphony dinner at Jack Stack after our concert in KC in October, 2015. I didn't realize it had started as The Stack.

They started as the Smokestack in the Martin City neighborhood of KC.  Near two other old restaurants - RC's and Jess & Jim's.

    And Snead's! :)
Jack Stack's is/was one of the places that served Lamb ribs, at least in the past.

Jack Stack still has lamb ribs. So does RJs Bob-Be-Que Shack.

Snead's is about 3 miles farther south.

Keith, being a KS Guy, we just always grouped those far SE places together. It was an expedition to head that far
    that away.
    Who owns the Jackstacks now?

I understand that those attending the KC Crawl will enjoy a two day seminar on Kansas City barbecue and its history presented by BuddyRoadhouse. No guarantee of a spreadsheet, but a PowerPoint is certainly within the realm of our expectations.

The only PowerPoint I know how to do is when I powerfully jab my finger in your chest as I try to make my point.
