The WI state pie?

Regardless of whether or not one already exists, here's what it should be:

I thought for sure I would see sour cream raisin after the click!  Dang.  Cherry pie must be big, of course, in the Door Peninsula and surrounds.  It is here as well on the west coast of lower Michigan.  But in the NW Indianhead region of Wisconsin where I grew up, sour cream raisin was the specialty in many main street cafes.  A few weeks of glazed strawberry pie in June, then back to steadier, quieter, less audacious fillings.

We think alike.  Sour cream raisin is the first pie I think of when I think of Wisconsin.  It probably doesn't hurt that SCR is my favorite.

I suspect that Iowa, Minnesota and even North Dakota will vehemently protest.

lazycook and buffetbuster,

This is not a Cherry Pie. It is a Brandy Old Fashioned Pie, modeled after the Wisconsin State Cocktail. Many dessert varieties are being made based on the Old Fashioned flavor profile, including cheesecake and Kringle.

Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, North Carolina, Ohio, Virginia and West Virginia all have the cardinal as their state bird.  I think more than one state can share sour cream raisin pie.

But, who would really want to share their slice of sour cream raisin pie?

bb,

SCR Pie is not really common throughout Wisconsin. As wj rightly alludes, that pie is more likely to be found in the northwestern parts of the state, nearest Minnesota.

I am in no way advocating sour cream raisin pie should be the official state pie of Wisconsin.  What I am saying is that it one of the few states where I actually can find my favorite pie.  And that's good enough for me.

Believe it or not, I've never seen a sour cream raisin pie offered for sale in Wisconsin. Lemon meringue yes, followed by cherry, then apple.

MilwFoodlovers, hie thee to Stockholm Pie & General Store.

I guess the Brandy Old Fashioned Cherry Pie would be something indeed.  Except I always have my old fashioned with whiskey.  There are a few of us.  :)

Or one of the Norske Nooks.  Last night I was watching a rerun of Wisconsin Foodie and in the Norske Nook (Osseo) segment Kyle Cherek made his own SCR pie. With about a foot of meringue on the top.

I would have guessed CheeseCurdBeerBrat Pie.

That's the official *savory* pie.
