The latest Best Pizza state list...

https://www.huffingtonpost.com/hoppercom/americas-best-pizza-cities_b_5214962.html

Came across this in food news from Huffington post, an updated list. Rates New York #1, New Jersey #2, and New Haven #3 Sounds about right to be. I'd eat pizza from either one...oh wait I have.

I don't have time to check out the link but what city had Dominos, which had Pizza Hut, and which had Papa Johns? And was there no Papa Murphy's, Little Caesars, or Sbarro?

To which I'll add Charleston, New Orleans, and any place in Florida or the "COW" states on the Left Coast!

I love how Chicago became known for deep dish when we grew up mainly with thin crust tavern style.  You can pretty much get most styles around the area including the three we are known for (thin, deep dish, stuffed).  We also have Detroit square pan pizza, New York/East coast gas oven and coal oven, New Haven, Neapolitan, Sicilian, Roman, and even unique styles like Burt's/Pequod and Chicago Pizza Oven and Grinder which is a one of a kind pizza pot pie.

Burt always called it "Pizza In The Pan" and avoided the "Chicago Style" or "Deep Dish" designation.  Also, his pizzas featured the caramelized crust which actually made it closer to a Detroit Style Pizza ala Buddy's.  He accomplished that by arranging the slices of mozzarella so they arched up the side of the pan, then melted down as the pie baked.  The result was a ridge of caramelized cheese, created as it seared against the metal pan.

Other pizza joints pull the dough up the side of the pan to create a barrier between the cheese and the pan.

Just as a point of interest, three of the four restaurants started by Burt Katz are still in business, although under different ownership.  Gulliver's, Pequods, and Burt's Place continue to thrive.  The only one that's not around is his first venture, The Inferno.  It actually might've survived, except the building was razed about 40 years ago to make room for a bank.
