I finally took a look at the link and saw Chicago's very own Susie's Drive-In
made the list. We've visited a few times, starting more than ten years ago. The food is good, the fries are indeed outstanding and the authentic retro vibe
is very alluring
, especially after dark
. However, I find their prices to be a bit high and their service less than welcoming.
A better bet, for me anyway, is right across the street at Beef & Burger
. Oddly enough, given the name of the joint, the Burgers
here are just so-so, but the Italian Beef Sandwiches
are pretty darned good. The real hidden gem at B&B is the Grilled Chicken Breast Sandwich
. A well marinated full breast is cooked beautifully on an open fire grill before landing on your choice of French Bread, Pita, or Hamburger Bun, then topped with lettuce, tomato, and mayo. I prefer they dress it up like a classic Burger with Ketchup, Mustard, Pickle, Onion, and Tomato. Because I'm weird, that's why.
Also, the prices are right, they're always glad to see you, and more importantly, as it relates to this thread, and as they compare to their next door rival, the Fresh Cut Fries
are as good or better than Susie's!
