US 41 from south of Gary IN to Evansville IN

Any lunch suggestions? I remember finding an outstanding BPT maybe 40 miles north of Evansville but its been some time and I don't remember its name and besides that was going home so we're really looking somewhere south of the greater Chicago traffic area but well north of Evansville. We're headed to the W.C. Handy Fest in Henderson KY so we really don't want to drive very far off of US 41. RFer Louis I'm sure has ideas for when we arrive.

Veedersburg, IN is right on 41 (just south of I-74) and while I haven't been to any of them yet, there are 3 places that look interesting to me: The Apple Tree, Hershey's Drive-In, and Nel's Daily Bread.  And if you're willing to take US-136 east for 4-1/2 miles there's a place in Hillsboro called Chatterbox Cafe.  Again, no personal experience to report but it has my attention for a possible future visit, possibly in August.  I'll be in the US-41/I-74 area and am leaning toward it or The Beef House, 11 miles west of 41 at IN-63.

As you are coming South down U.S. 41, about 1/4 of a mile before you get to the I-64 interchange (about 15 miles above Evansville), if you turn left at Warrenton, and go a mile down the road you will come to The Log Inn.  It was the oldest stagecoach stop (1825) in Indiana, and for all I know may now be the oldest restaurant in Indiana.  Most people go there for fried chicken, but all the food is good.  It is open Tuesday through Saturday.  Doors open at 4 p.m.  Make reservations because the place is always packed.  Huge lines start to form at 4 p.m.

    See you soon Louis.
I was looking for an earlier meal and it looks like Veedersburg fits the bill.
I want Roadhouse chicken and if we are only 15 miles away, I'll hold out for that.
That sounds like a great place for a meal.

You mean Roadfood Chicken at Brown Bag Burgers in Henderson, Kentucky.  They are the ones who inherited the now defunct Bon Ton Mini Mart fried chicken recipe.

There are a couple of good places in Washington, IN (or at least there were when I went through there in 2015), but it looks to be about 20 miles off Rt. 41. I assume that's too far out of your way?

As they are coming south on U.S. 41, they can cut over to Washington on U.S. 50, and once they dine at The New White Streamer in Washington, Indiana they can drive a mile out of town and then get on U.S. 69 and take it all the way to Henderson.   I-69 stops at U.S. 41; it picks up again on the other side of the Ohio river, just outside of Henderson.

In about ten years there will be a new bridge that will take travelers on I-69 over the Ohio river without interruption from Indiana to Kentucky (and vice-versa).  The older bridges that currently go over the Ohio river on U.S. 41 will still be there, but there is a question (hopefully resolved soon) as to whether one of both bridges will be in use once the nearby I-69 bridge is built.

Right. That's what I was thinking. There is also a hot dog and ice cream drive-in in Washington. I forget the name.

I'm way overdue for getting back to that part of the country. Hopefully, the wait won't go on that much longer.

That's the one!  I wasn't too impressed.  It's been there since 1951.  They brought me a mug of root beer.  The side of the glass mug was covered with ice.  The only problem was that the ice was made of plastic and the root beer was almost warm.

My wife and I only went to Mason's for ice cream after having burgers at New White Steamer. It was above-average soft-serve. As I recall, my banana shake was very good. I can't comment on the quality of the rest of the food.
