Right now I'm watching an interesting show about a group of ordinary, diverse citizens trying to find the hidden, ill-gotten gains of a deceased career criminal named Grogan.  I'm trying to remember the name of the show but at the moment it escapes me...quite maddening!

I firmly believe those insipid "real people" Chevy commercials are, in fact, produced and paid for by Ford and Toyota.

So, I really enjoy these parodies.

We finally finished up the first season of "Mayans MC" on FX (although we had it on DVR). This was a great series and, if you like "Son's of Anarchy" or "The Wire" you'd definitely like this! Very well done. I am definitely looking forward to the next season!

Being from the area I thought you'd appreciate this. I was on Mrs. Maisel for an 18 hour shoot at McSorleys bar in the Village. All I had to do was sit at the bar but with nary a drink to be had. That was not easy but because they did so many takes and it took so long I got what is called in the trade " golden time " so the pay was substantial.

I am already done watching The Kominsky Method on Netflix, it premiered on November 16. Michael Douglas and Alan Arkin make this a really compelling series for us old guys (my wife loved it too). I had several laugh out loud (not LOL) moments watching this which never happens anymore.

The OTA sub-network Antenna TV is currently showing an hour-long block of Barney Miller each weeknight.  It was a favorite of my dad back in the day and even though I didn't understand some of the humor (especially Steve Landesberg) I still enjoyed it, and now that I'm older it's that much better despite its age.  And it still has one of the best theme songs in TV history.

And for those of you who're fans of the show, if you haven't yet seen You Don't Know Jack: The Jack Soo Story it's worth watching if you can find it.

Watched "The Incredibles 2" last night. It was a worthy successor to the first one! Thoroughly entertaining family fare! If you watched the first one and enjoyed it, you'll like this one, too.

I just finished the final (3rd) season of TRAVELERS. It started on network TV, but Netflix did the final season. All in all, I think it is a so-so series, but I'm glad that it was brought to an end. As we have discussed before, it really sucks when you get into a show only to have it quit in the middle of a season, or worse yet leave us with a cliff-hanger and never come back.

As for Rittenhouse.........IMO we really never got a good answer.....

Last night was the season finale of NCIS. Let's just say that the last scene of this show sets up a very interesting season opener in Sept.

Travelers and Timeless were different shows; the "Rittenhouse Conspiracy" was part of the latter.

I must both praise and thank NBC which, after cancelling Timeless, at least reassembled the cast and, for the most part, resolved cliff-hangers and tied up loose ends in a one-time "special".

On the other hand, I cordially invite CBS to do what Jerry Lee Lewis invited England to do:

I spent two seasons of loyal and very enjoyable viewing with CBS' Salvation

Yet, instead of resolving the most fantastic cliffhanger ever devised by a scriptwriter's fevered mind, CBS just cancelled the show.

Doesn't CBS owe "Salvation" viewers the same consideration NBC afforded the loyal viewers of three seasons of "Timeless"?

Failing that, why should I ever again invest time in any CBS serial/drama?

-----------------------

Edit - additional info:

If you are unfamiliar with this series, its basic plot was that an asteroid was discovered to be taking dead aim on earth and would surely extinguish all life if some way to destroy it or alter its path could not be found and executed.

After two seasons of wild schemes and plot twists the asteroid just kept on coming.

Until it didn't !!!
  • When it reached Earth it just stopped and remained in geostationary orbit.
  • That was a simply amazing "plot twist".
  • Perhaps it was a 'twist' that explained the title of the series.
Then, with no further "plot resolution", CBS cancelled it !!!

So, CBS can kiss my …

Re:What are you watching? 2019/05/23 09:44:54 (permalink)
The hated cliff hangers could easily be avoided with a one time special as Metro has suggested. The special mentioned was not great, but it was a whole lot better than nothing. I'm sure that I am not the only one who will not consider a new series unless reviews suggest that it will last. My suggestion for a CHEAP series ending would be for a few players (cheap because they would be paid scale........take it or leave it.........most of the cast would not be needed) would run into each other in an airport bar a few years later. With (already taped) flashbacks mostly used , a conversation between players could tie up loose ends. "Yeah, it was great when Bill rigged an auto accident to kill Snidly". and "I went to Ken and Marla's wedding, and we were all sorry that you couldn't make it".,,,,and "President Kelly's re election was assured when he worked with the Chinese to blow up the asteroid", and so on.

I have not yet watched the Game ending. I'll see it on Netflix eventually, and knowing how it ends will be no big deal for me. I watched the first half of American Idol's final, because my wife likes it. IMO, most of the top 10 will get to have careers, but stardom is IMO , a crap shot, even for the very talented. The winner is good looking, talented, and likable. My prediction is that he will have a good summer on the state fair circuit, and then record one of the zillion or so good songs that will be recorded this year. I wish him well, but would not back him with MY money.....

I recently  re watched V (the remake), knowing of the cliff hanger ending. It's ratings were so so when it came out, but those numbers would look good today with the ever more fragmented market.

Being almost summer. I'll be watching very little for the next few months
