I watched the entire four hours of The Divided States of America, a "Frontline" special on PBS.  Truly, it is a "must watch" for anyone with an interest in history and politics.  Whether it "fits your perspective" or helps you understand others, watching it is a most useful exercise.
And, I say that not because I agree with its POV; I just admire slickly produced propaganda and this is as slick as it gets.  For me it was a yuck-fest; for many others I suspect it may be an almost religious experience.  In any case, it's sure worth a watch.

Haven't we always been the divided states of America? As I recall, didn't we have that thing called the Civil War?
Not very "Civil" - "At least 618,000 Americans died in the Civil War, and some experts say the toll reached 700,000. The number that is most often quoted is 620,000." I'll try to catch that show next time it's on.

Indeed.  And PBS aired an exemplary documentary on that.  In it, documentarian Ken Burns did not demonize or romanticize either side.  To pick a single word to describe his magnificent effort:  edifying; Mr. Burns truly built a vehicle through which modern Americans could fairly apprehend, perhaps comprehend, that momentous era.

In stark contrast Frontline's The Divided States of America is rife with angels and demons.  And, you don't need a program to identify them; the "documentarian" identifies such clearly with the soundtrack.  The "angels" are given uplifting musical beds in the flavor of Copeland's Appalachian Spring; ominous music in the flavor of the opening coda of Liszt's Mephisto Waltz underlie the words and acts of the "demons".  Again, I highly recommend it if for no reason other than the insight it gives into the mind of individuals whose point of view is more than somewhat different from my own.  As such, it truly is an educational experience.

I watched something out of the ordinary for me... a sort of sci-fi series.

Stranger Things on Netflix.  It was outstanding.  Watched all eight episodes during the last two days.

I've seen bits of This is Us and I was surprised to read today that it is the number one new show in the coveted demographic that I graduated from years ago. I like the Odd Couple re-boot, but I don't know how it is doing.

Yesterday, while waiting at the doctor office, I was subjected to "The View". I've seen parts of it before, also in waiting rooms, but yesterday was less awful. Cristella Alonzo was a guest. She had a show that lasted one season, "Cristella", which was sort of good, but it never got the deserved ratings, maybe due to it's time slot. I'd like to see her get another shot at a network sit-com. IMO, she would be better than a lot of the TV wives in the new season shows.

Ms Alonzo makes a good guest, but I don't think for a moment that she was not already booked on The View, when she got on that train to DC.

No, it's the viewers' heads that're spinning.

MeTV is now showing Kolchak: The Night Stalker on Sunday nights.  I wonder if Darren McGavin ever shared scary stories on the "A Christmas Story" set...

Mrs. Metro and I enjoyed last night's "Prime Time Special".
We're hoping for at least three more episodes in the near future.

I'm looking forward to Superior Donuts . The pre reviews have been lukewarm, but I have to see for myself.

Even though I recommended it above, Timeless is - for me - turning into a "shaggy dog" story with very little plot advancement.

But, The Young Pope is getting better and better.

Through foreshadowing I know how it ends:

I just don't know how it 'gets there'.

I recently read a new novel about the selection of a fictional pope. It was good but I forget the name, so I'll come back and ad it. It would make a good movie, at a reasonable budget.

It is Conclave by Robert Harris. Maybe I should have put it with books, but I commented here so it is what it is........

I stumbled onto Santa Clarita Diet on Netflix last night. It's a zombie comedy starring Drew Barrymore.

Since, for eight years, they "couldn't find anything funny" I hadn't watched Saturday Night Live in years, but I'm watching again to laugh with - and laugh at - their parody of the present Administration.

Last week's Melissa McCarthy/Sean Spicer bit was hilarious; last night's "Kellyanne Conway's 'Fatal Attraction' to Jake Tapper" really took the cake.  Coming soon, I hear, is Rosie O'Donnell as Steve Bannon.  I can hardly wait.

My DVR is "set"!

HBO's "The Young Pope" was quite surprising ... even inspiring.

Not to 'spoil it', but evil was punished and goodness prevailed.

So, for HBO, this series was a shocking departure from their usual snark and irreligiosity.

I agree with Jim that Timeless is going rapidly down hill. Superior Donuts , is as the pre broadcast reviews said, so-so. I commented on it before I had seen it, and I have now seen the first 3 shows. BLACKLIST has also gone downhill, and now I see that they are doing a spin off. I've been watching the old Viet Nam series, Tour of Duty, which I'd never seen, because I worked nights when it came out. It has aged well, but looking at this old show, it is interesting how few of the cast ever got good roles again. Schitt$ Creek is sort of funny.
