FINALLY!!!

On The Curse of Oak Island (History Channel, Tuesday 2/21) it looks like they've actually discovered something deep underground other than hand-hewn wood that carbon dates to the 1650's.

I hope the 8 ton hammer-grab doesn't come up with fragments of 4,000 year old acacia wood and bits of stone!

Of course!  It's the season finale.  Need something to bring you back.

Whatever they discovered, they discovered during last summer when the weather permitted exploration.  Over the fall they edit the season's filming to divide it into episodes to be shown in the winter.  So, of course, they are going to save the most dramatic for "last".

Sure enough, I "Googled" the fraud angle and there is quite a lot of "material" in that regard.

That said, as a kid I did read the 'famous' Reader's Digest article and it fascinated me, though not quite as much as the show's 'stars'.

At this point I'd say the only 'fraud' may be on the part of the folks who, circa 1650, buried hand hewn oak timbers at a depth of 190' beneath a tiny uninhabited island in the hope of pulling an elaborate hoax on whomever would have the technology and will to dig it out nearly four centuries later.

Yes, I know the History Channel broadcasts the 'scripted reality' Pawn Stars and the literally fantastic Ancient Aliens, but this show actually does seem "real" to me (at least).

Timeless could have ended with the season's final show, but rather they chose to broadcast a surprise cliff hanger ending, for a show that most commenters expect to be a non renew. If the last 3 or 4 minutes had been written with respect for the audience , the show could have ended on a high note, with a satisfying ending. I have read and heard that new series have a hard time getting started because so many are left as orphans, leaving the audience high and dry, so the audience never starts watching in the first place.

The decision to renew, is, as it should be, based on profitability, but IMO a decision to do a cliffhanger ending, for a series that is all but dead, disrespects viewers.

You mean we'll never figure out what "Rittenhouse" is all about!
Or even if it's 'Rittenhouse' or 'Rittenhaus'!
So, the whole show was just one shaggy dog farce.

Aside from Justified, the most entertaining show of the past several years was HBO's The Brink.
The 'first season' ended with a great cliffhanger, but it never was renewed.
I hope that terrorist put the 'broken arrow' under HBO's HQ!

My goodness, YouTube has everything:

When I was 4 it was my favorite show!

I watched it on Pittsburgh's WDTV, Channel 2, DuMont Broadcasting, then Pittsburgh's only channel.  It ran shows from all the networks until they each got their own stations.

We like the new "24", but only on Hulu. To watch the regular broadcast subjects you to almost 20 minutes of ads in a 60 minute show!! It is not THAT good, and without Hulu, I'd have given up on 24 by now. For those who don't know, there is "free" Hulu, with ads, and "premium" Hulu with almost no ads.

Designated Survivor, mentioned earlier in this thread, IMO, continues to go down hill. I don't know how it is doing in the ratings.

Santa Clarita Diet, mentioned earlier in this thread, by davydd, is OK. It was good advice. There is no "message", or "preaching", just a fairly funny show that you can laugh at, and then forget about.

Totally disagree on Designated Survivor. If anything the plot has thickened and the suspense is building. They can't blow up buildings every week. I find I've gotten to know and care about these characters more, and thus am engrossed in the plot lines more. It's still my favorite new show!

The ratings are so - so but it is getting renewed, so for now, I'll keep watching. Maybe I'll agree with you by this time next year............

FARGO, season 3 has arrived.

For those who have never watched the show, each season has entirely new casts and storylines.  Only the occasional 'Easter egg' connects them.

Season 1, with Billy Bob Thornton, was thoroughly engrossing and is well worth a trip to the video store or Amazon.  And Season 2 was every bit as good.

Season 3 looks very promising, but the first episode had so many plots and sub-plots that it needs to be watched several times, an effort that I am glad to make based on my previous experience with this show.

As I suspected from the jump, Designated Survivor has fast become West Wing with explosions. And, as predicted, the "bad guys" are from the "Alt-Right". I guess Hollywood just can't help itself..

Still, as the show features Maggie Q, it remains "must see T.V." for me.

I'm watching "Call The Midwife" on On Demand, and we're watching "Feud: Bette & Joan" on On Demand. We also like to re-watch "The Invaders" on DVD because it was just such a great show that I didn't appreciate when I was a teenager.

Re:What are you watching? 2017/05/13 11:05:44 (permalink)
As we are all just trying to have a little fun here, may I politely inquire as to the reason my post #204 above was "FLAGGED AS SPAM"?

Just what was my "offense"?

Was it the fact that the plot finally took the direction I predicted last Fall in posts  #114 and #122?  If so, then prescience has become "offensive".

Was it that I now characterize the show as "West Wing with explosions"?  If so, is humor now a crime?

Is it not a fact that "President Kiefer" - when he is not dodging bombs, bullets, and perfidy - is busy pushing gun control and de-nuke-ing Europe?!

When is Martin Sheen going to guest-star as  former President Bartlet?  So, my comment is not only humorous, it is apropos.

And why does Hollywood seemingly always (West Wing, Dave, The American President, Designated Survivor) have their 'heroic' fictional Presidents (always depicted as "thoughtful moderates") in such a rutting lust for gun control?  Well, I guess that they simply cannot help themselves.  So, has stating fact or a logical conclusion now become a 'thought crime'?

Man-up (or woman-up) Mr. (or Ms.) anonymous "flagger" and explain yourself.

Another popular member seems to think of his SPAM buttons as a badge of honor. In this case, Lee's post, like yours, has a slightly buried political message, but he didn't get the badge. I for one got a kick out of both posts. I'd like to know who the flagger is myself, if only to laugh at/with, him/her. Thanks for posting.

I wish the spam button was eliminated. When real spam is posted, we all know it anyway...and it's often used in meanness like above. The internet enables many a coward!
