The steak had a napolito (cactus) salsa on it.  I'd never had napolitos before.  After picking out the cilantro it was quite good.  The napolitos had a pickled taste to them.

Shredded cabbage does not belong on top of a cheese enchilada!  Period!  It was removed prior to eating.

What I didn't take a picture of was my Blackberry Cadillac Margarita.  Had I have had two of them I might not have noticed the cilantro or cabbage.  What a delicious drink!

Nice view. I knew El Torito was a chain when two of them opened here back in the '80s. But you didn't have to mention the fact it was a chain.

I cooked!!!!!! Not only that, but it's been long enough Photobucket got their issues straightened out and I can post pictures again.

Cod with red bell pepper sauce, side of colcannon (I used Alton Brown's recipe instead of my great-grandma's because he adds Jameson, and who couldn't use a little more Jameson in their lives?).

felix,
Glad you cooked!  And yes, everything is better with Jameson's!

mar,
Blackberry Cadillac margarita?  Sounds fantastic.  You should've had two.......or three........and then you might have actually liked cilantro!

I could have had two of those Cadillacs!

But as I told the waitress...  That table of 4 Sheriffs sitting next to me has to leave before I order a second, or maybe before I even leave!

Tonight's dinner was unremarkable.  I finally made it to Kogi.  Not my thing.

What's Kogi and why wasn't it your thing?

Kogi is the brick and mortar shop of Roy Choi, famous for winning the Food Truck Wars on TV.  He makes Korean Fusion Food.

Mistake going there but at least I now know.

Kogi Tacqueria looked promising when entering.  The place was packed.  There were young kinds filling up the place, talking on their phones and sort of ignoring each other while eating.

Ordering should have been simple but the woman taking the orders did not understand...  No cilantro, please.  She didn't understand Please leave all the cilantro off... no salsa if it has cilantro and it went on and on until she brought out someone from the back.  I had only tried to order a short rib taco and a Kogidog.  That part was simple.

The person from the back talks to her and asks me... you want a number seven?  That took me by surprise so I looked at the board which combined the taco with any one of their $7 items and a drink.  Not to confuse them anymore, I said... sure.  It was a serve yourself fountain bar.  But I also reiterated,  please... I don't want fresh cilantro at all or the salsas that have cilantro in them.  She didn't say anything other than okay.  Fine... I took my glass for the drink I really didn't want and walked over to the soda fountain.  I'm not a soda person but you can usually find a plain soda water button or water button on those machines.  Nope!  Worst of all evils, I filled it with Diet Coke because if I was going to drink it, it should at least be better for me.

When my food was ready I had to pick it up from the counter.  They were in wimpy cardboard serving things without a tray below them.  Maybe malls have ruined me!

Let us Start with the worst which I sort of figured would be awful before even ordering it...

the Kogidog.

The dog itself was deep fried after suffering a horrible fate.  Before the frying they were stabbed all over the place with the tip of a knife.  Maybe so it would cook faster?  It made it hard, very salty and greasy.  They must have dipped the bun in butter or fake butter from a drum and then crisped it on the flat top.  It fell apart when I tried to lift it.  The toppings were...kimchi, salsa roja, Kogi slaw and sesame mayonnaise were sloppy and they covered the dog and made the greasy bun soggy where it wasn't crisp!  OVERLOAD of awful ingredients that don't belong on a hot dog.

The taco stated that it had the same toppings without the kimchi and served on 2 crispy tortillas.  It was served on one limp tortilla that wasn't even grilled enough.  There was some flavor in the taco... sweet.  It also was over packed with the toppings.  I don't like messy eating and these both literally fell apart when lifted so I used a fork and knife.  Kids may have been looking at me.

They'll never be ordered by me again.

However... I do see one offering by Kogi that could remedy all of the problems mentioned above.  They also served these items wrapped inside a flour tortilla and you eat them like a burrito.  I could handle that if I liked the flavor combinations.

It's a local place but I won't be giving them a second try.

Well, damn!  Nothing worse than bad food that you have to pay for!  That rarely happens to us because we don't eat out much but when it does, I don't complain, don't send it back, I just don't go back!  Looks like you're gonna do that with Kogi.

I fully intended to cook again, but I just got done with this and I suspect it's going to end up being dinner later. For a friend's 50th birthday... 3-layer French vanilla cake, seedless raspberry preserves between the layers, raspberry buttercream, garnished with fresh raspberries and sliced almonds.

Thank you! She loved her cake, and it was absolutely fantastic! I tweaked a Better Homes & Gardens recipe for the cake, and the buttercream was a Wilton recipe. Here's a slice for you!

Tonight I decided to finally use the stick blender the guy got me for Christmas, so I made tomato soup. Krab salad melts on the side.

lleechef, that looks way tasty! I was going to make salmon chowder next week, but my mother vetoed the idea. I'm currently trying to sell her on shrimp chowder, but we'll see.

Beautiful cake!  The kind I like that doesn't have inches of icing.  Perfect!
Your dinner looks great, too!  We're having leftover corned beef and cabbage.

Tonight was Persian food at a restaurant/market in OKC called Travel By Taste.

Top is an eggplant and beef stew and bottom is ghormeh sabzi. Also saffron rice and mast-o khair (yogurt dip) with lavash bread. All was very good!

Icomat, that does look good!  I've had hit and miss with Persian food.  Westwood (UCLA) has a huge Persian population so there are several Persian restaurants in the area.

I had 2 Jack in the Box Monster Tacos last night.

That does look amazing! I've never had specifically Persian food, but it looks very much like something I would enjoy.

I won! Convinced mom to let me make shrimp chowder, and she liked it! Bag salad on the side, with Italian dressing.
