That does look amazing! I've never had specifically Persian food, but it looks very much like something I would enjoy.

I won! Convinced mom to let me make shrimp chowder, and she liked it! Bag salad on the side, with Italian dressing.

What all is in that chowder?  It looks great

I put all sorts of stuff in there! Shrimp, of course. Red potato, yellow and orange bell pepper, yellow onion, garlic, lima beans, corn, and the base was cannelini beans pureed with lemon juice and olive oil. Instead of milk or cream I used low-fat evaporated milk at the end. Garnished with sliced scallions.

Last night we drove over to Detroit for my first ever Red Wings game! Beforehand we stopped at the Greektown Casino, then did dinner at Wahlburgers. We both got the bacon BBQ burger, mine with onion rings, my friend's with fries. Very tasty burgers, but excellent onion rings (and an ungodly huge basket of them for $3.50) if a little hard to eat. Not the best picture since the lighting is meh, but you get the idea.

Felix, That chowder sounds AWESOME...I would love that mix of flavors, 'cause I love Lima's and peppers.

Tonight was finally my turn for corned beef & cabbage! My sister pre-empted me in March by having Mom over, then I was busy, then I didn't have cabbage. So today I finally got to make it, and it was fabulous.

That is correct.  I was the chef at The Olde Irish Alehouse and one of my cooks was a gal from Ireland.  She said they had "bacon and cabbage" which was a lightly brined pork butt.  I like both!

I'll let you all fight it out across the threads... guess you'll run out of steam eventually..*yawn*. In the meantime, GIMME with that corned beef and cabbage, Felix. Love to see the hash that could come out of the leftovers.

I was unaware of having claimed in any way, shape, or form that I was making anything remotely resembling an authentic Irish recipe. Not that I would have, as I also had an Irish grandmother. If all y'all are having an issue with each other, please leave me out of it. I just made food I enjoy eating that I can only afford during the time of year when it is on sale regardless of its authenticity. And I will gleefully enjoy a corned beef Reuben for lunch tomorrow, as well as that hash later on!

@Brad: What you can't see is the meat extends almost all the way to both ends of the pan. It was a 5 pound brisket!

Tonight I did beer-brined pork chops, spinach and pickled beet salad, broccoli with tangy sweet sauce, and some (regrettable) seedless watermelon. To the best of my knowledge, there is no tradition associated with any of those things, nor is there any particular significance to making them on the 7th of April.

Much better!

What kind of beer did you use for the pork chops?  When I brine with beer I tend to gravitate toward hoppier beers for a little bit of a bite.

Before reading the text I thought for a moment you had a bowl of raw beef chunks...

Normally I do an amber or some kind of dark, but what I had was a blonde ale so that's what I used this time. The flavour was there, but it didn't hold up to the salt as well as a darker beer. Still tasty, though.

Ha! Raw beef chunks. I can see that, now that I look at it. Raw beef would've had more flavour... that was some perfectly useless watermelon.

Tonight I just had leftover CBC, but since by dinnertime tomorrow I fully intend to be far too tipsy to consider being online, I figured I'd get a jump on my dinner picture. This is currently sitting on my counter, waiting to go to the party tomorrow afternoon.

We had my former neighbor and best friend from Boston here as a guest for the past 5 days.  Her daughter is a freshman at Temple and was competing in a gymnastics meet here.  The first two nights we ate out, the first locally and the second at Schmidt's Sausage Haus which is regionally appropriate because their bratwurst, the Bahama Mama, was voted as Columbus' official food.  The last two nights I cooked.  Walleye with asparagus and wild rice on Saturday and gnocchi Bolognese with roasted chicken and salad last night.  No pics.  Kelli and I were too busy yakking.  Today we both rest!
