Is that you or the seat I see?

Cranberry?

We don't have Sonic.  I'd love a cherry limeade.

That's me! I adore cranberry limeade. I always mean to try the cherry, but always end up going back to cranberry.

My daughter made us this Old recipe she found. It sort of is a French bread loaf stuffed with asparagas in a delicious cream sauce. We loved it! Very different.

Grandbabies are coming for the weekend tomorrow so laying in supplies. These chocolate chip cookies are my Mom's recipe and I honestly believe they are why my husband proposed to me!

I was going to make coconut rum banana bread tonight, but now I may need to make chocolate chip cookies instead. Those look fabulous!

@leethebard: I'm intrigued by that recipe. Care to share?

Today I made two crock pot recipes on the stove since I still haven't bought a new crock pot. Saucy chicken thighs and root beer baked beans. Steamed broccoli and cauliflower on the side.

Nice to meet you too Mar

Oh man, I haven't had a cheeseburger in a while and that one looks delicious. Will have one of those, with some of those baked beans and some cookies and then I will need a nap from all of that heavy food...but it would be worth it for sure.

it was my turn to try an ongoing food challenge on a Facebook group I belong to.

2X Spicy Chicken Ramen, made in Korea.  I found it as hot as the medium level of Prince's Nashville Hot Chicken.  I had no problem with it.

Re:What's For Dinner TONIGHT...??? 2018/05/26 07:25:31 (permalink)
Hi all

I'm Susan and I live in Brisbane, the capital city of Queensland, in Australia.  I've made a couple of posts previously and appreciate the very kind welcome that was extended to me by members of this forum at that time.

I haven't posted any further on this thread because most of the posts here include photos and I'm really much more of a writer than than a photographer.

But today I thought that even without photos, it might interest some of you to read about real-life Australian food and day to day cooking, rather than the "throw a shrimp on the barbie" kind of stuff that the film industry and media promote.

So here we go!

Tonight Chris (partner) and I are having Slow Cooker Potato Chowder.  At Chris' request there will be a poached egg involved in his in some way (egg on soup? #gofigure). This was my fault.  I should never have told him that such a thing exists. There will be no egg on my chowder.

To turn it into a full meal, there will also be cheese/pepperoni/green bell pepper (called capsicum in Australia) grilled sandwiches for Chris and something involving smoked salmon, cream cheese, capers and lemon juice for me.

Happy Saturday,

S

Hi Susan. I'm with you when it comes to an egg in or with the chowder, and both sandwiches sound really good. I do believe though I'd rather have yours.

Greetings, Susan! Pictures are certainly not required... I do because I also run a recipe blog and Facebook page, but I'd love to hear about your meals pictures or not. I'm unsure about poached egg in chowder also, but both of those sandwiches sound fabulous!

Mar, how does that work? Do you send each other foods to try, or does the challenge also involve trying to find them? I'm intrigued.

Tonight I threw together a thing I'm calling Pepper Steak Stir-Fry. Marinated steak (used the marinade for sauce), red and Vidalia onions, red, yellow, and orange bell peppers, asparagus, and mushrooms. And then at the end I threw a handful of dry roasted peanuts on top because I could.

Felix, it's the 99¢ Store Fanatics page.  The stores are only in 4 states.  This ramen is something that showed up on their shelves so it's really if you dare try it let us know what you thought.  The response has been funny.  It's hot in that it has a lingering burn on your lips but the taste wasn't all that spicy, I thought.  There are no winners.  Many people can't eat it at all.  One ate 3 bowls!

The store gets limited run items and they're also importers of small run items.  It's fun to look at the stuff there and I've been supporting them buying doggy pee pads.

Thank you leethebard, Michael and Felix.

Felix - your Pepper Steak Stir Fry looks amazing!

Re last night's dinner, the poached egg/chowder thing came from a food blog photo that looked, well, OK.

If you keep the egg nicely rounded, I could see how some people would like the idea.

But last night's soup ended up eggless.

Because it turned out to be such a disaster, the last thing it needed was me tempting fate by adding an egg.

I decided to blend it into a cream soup instead of serving it as a chowder, and it turned into a horrible beige looking thing with the gummy consistency of wallpaper paste.  I could not bring myself to add to the awfulness by putting an egg on it.

I had a very small amount and thought it was abhorrent.  Chris had a large amount. Even with his adventurous attitude to food, he thought it was very gluggy and would certainly not order it again. Which is a good thing, because I will certainly never make it again!

Tonight is Cheesy shells and greens, with salad, and a side of crumbed chicken breast for C.

Essentially it's shell pasta precooked then baked in a cheese sauce with silverbeet (spinach) folded through and dijon mustard and a pinch of cayenne to give them a little kick.

Back to work tomorrow. Weekends go too fast.

Lovely to meet you, mar52.  Ha ha, my name IS a mouthful!   I used it because it's my name on other food-related websites and I ran out of ideas for other names.

But you've inspired me - I'm going to become NQV instead, at least on this forum. The mysterious Ms NQV!

I'm happy to say I redeemed myself with last night's dinner. #reputationsaved!

It was great, and the leftovers were amazing for lunch.

And tonight's dinner will be ... oven-baked Tassie (Tasmanian) salmon, potato gratin and coleslaw.
