I would've assumed a California burger would have to include avocado or sprouts or both, but then maybe I'm being stereotypical.

Tonight after spending the last 3 days in bed with the plague, I threw a bunch of stuff in a pot and called it creamy chicken chili. I think it was tasty, but then I can't breathe.

A friend wanted to go to the West Los Angeles location of Daikaku, a ramen place I tried in Little Tokyo Downtown years ago.  I didn't really like it then as it was unremarkable.

This time I loved it!  Nice, rich porky broth with lots of flavor.  On the table they had ground fresh garlic and ground chili which I added.  It really was quite delicious and I'll be going back which is something I said I'd never do after having my favorite tan tan mein.

The yolk was soft but not runny and in the broth it took on a new flavor where I wished there was more than one.

Did you load it up with hot sauce to help open up your sinuses?

In my bowl there was a liberal application of Tapatio, yes.

Today's $7 dinner is brought to you by Daily Deals, a local chain of discount grocery stores (the type that carries expired or about to expire but still good food, surplus, etc.). Ham, spinach, and mushroom (onion, garlic, and red bell pepper also) omelette with Swiss and smoky American cheese. All done in bacon grease, of course.

I've done pizza on tortillas a lot! If you bake in/on cast iron it comes out nice and crispy and it's way low in carbs.

Tonight I threw a bunch of odds and ends in a pan and I'm going to call it Cheesy Ham and Vegetable Skillet. Served with Yoder's macaroni salad, to which I have become addicted.

Ham and potato casserole, with more macaroni salad because apparently I didn't think there were enough carbs already.

Last night lleechef made pot roast, one of my very favorite meals. There are two meals guaranteed to cause me to vastly overeat. Meat loaf, mashed potatoes and gravy and pot roast.

For Sunday gravy I made a tomato sauce with sauteed Portobello mushrooms and zucchini in red wine. Served over Italian rigatoni and delicious Italian bread from a bakery in Brooklyn.

I had a red pork tamale from Costco.  It's actually very good.

My wife just took one of those with her for lunch! Of course, we bought ours from Sam's Club, but they may well be the same.

Yep! Amazingly enough, I have eaten at the Tamale Place and they are only a so-so tamale joint, (regardless of what the local foodie critics may say). The Sam's tamales are actually really good, for a mass produced food product. They don't have a bunch of crap in them and they have a really good filling to masa ration! I had to search for filling at the Tamale Place. My local Mexican place makes a good tamale, too. But, I like the convenience of opening the fridge and pulling one out!
