We ate at a new Mexican restaurant that opened here. She was thrilled to try Fried Cactus for the first time, although she went to college in Arizona.

Chicken 3 ways.  So odd that I love the cilantro based chutney.  It's pickled enough to where it becomes very good accompaniment to the tandori chicken.  the carrot pickles are my favorite condiment.  I guess it would be called a condiment.  Very spicy.

Fried cactus is on my list of things I need to eat!
Cilantro chutney? I am intrigued, especially if you like it, Mar!

I call this "Seafood Casserole". It's what happens when you need to make room in the freezer for cheesecakes.

You can't go wrong with steak! Nice grill marks! I've got some NY Strips in the fridge waiting for the grill, myself!

A couple of weeks ago I grilled some pork chops.  Normally I keep the sauce on the side but every so often I change it up.

The takeaway from this being that "Tube Biscuit" is a great name for a band.

It was supposed to be an omelette, but I seem to have added too much sour cream so the eggs puffed almost an inch thick and then it broke when I flipped, but it was still pretty darn tasty.

OK. Last nights dinner was at the request of my daughter. I made Japanese noodles in a Miso soup base. Topped them with Konbu, Tofu, Fried Fish Cake and Hard Boiled Egg. Served them up with pickled daikon, eggplant pickles and kimchi.

Tonight's dinner, though was made by the good people at Portillo's. My daughter had a meatball sandwich and a chocolate cake shake. My son had a Big Beef, a chocolate malt and some onion rings. I had the regular Italian Beef (dipped) with sweet peppers and mozzarella, onion rings and a chocolate malt. We also went for slices of the chocolate cake. The cake really does go better in the shake, than alone. All in all, a good meal, as usual!

We had another depression dish from my mom's recipe box: Hot dog casserole. Think I've talked about it before" Potatoes, Green pepper and hotdogs all cut into large bite-size pieces, lots of canned tomato sauce poured over it, salt and pepper. Bake at 350 for an hour, covered. And there you have it. I was transported back almost 7 decades into my mom's kitchen. Talk of comfort food!

Root-Beer Man, that looks wonderful!  So does the Portillo's.

Not sure about the hot dog casserole, but I love the memories.

I also had popcorn.  Microwave popcorn.  It would have improved greatly with butter.

For lunch I had a fried egg sandwich on toast with Blue Plate Mayonnaise.  I could have left out the eggs and been happy!

It was great.
Lisa blanched and then sauteed two bunches of Andy Boy rabe in olive oil with slivered garlic and red pepper flakes. Then she added three links of cooked hot Italian sausage and a cup of cooked orecchiette. It was extraordinarily delicious.

My mom made this a lot when I was growing up. Don't have it much anymore. unless I see it on a menu in an Italian restaurant. Love it!!
